Peanut
Average rating of 69. Can you imagine a worse Open Class "Cup" field? I haven't had a bet since May. Winter Racing is horrible.

Winter Racing is horrible. Get used to it Peanut , and if you think this is just winter racing guess again , our open handicaps last summer were abysmal . In fact give it a few more years and this could be the standard of one of our current G1 races . The rate of horses being sold out of this country has hit alarming levels . We currently have only 10 horses rated 100 and above , i think only one or two is under 5years of age . How many of those do you think are going to race in Australia this spring and next Autumn . The mares situation is dire . Anything that makes it past a sale ring and then shows something in the trials or race day are sold , but also now a lot of owners are waking up to the fact that their horses can be competitive in Sydney and Melbourne and are sending them over there to race , i see a new one nearly every week . Welcome to the new world order . p.s. The ones in control have no idea how dire it is or of they do they are playing at being the 3 monkeys .

To look at it from a positive angle there are horses these days who are competive in NZ Group 1s, and winning lots of money, and getting black type for the family, who would never have been competive 20 or 30 years ago, and who probably would be listed level at best in Aussie. So some people are doing quite well out of it.

I get your point but it's poor quality black type and false pedigree , the money bit i can live with but i can tell you we won't have a G1 in a few years the way it is going . Our highest rated horse is Levante at 109 , for a race to maintain it's G1 status it has to have an average of 115 for the first 4 home in the race for the last 3 runnings , show any race here last season that can do that . It's the same process for the lower group and listed races . Our G1's will be lucky to be G3 or listed in 5 years . Look at Italy no more G1's , i'm sure there are other countries the same . The Taumaranui Cup used to be 100k and black type , some of the editions were great races , tomorrow's is a farce , like most of our better races . It is inconceivable that any Gr.1 race in NZ next season will have an average rating of 115 for the first four home. Look at the Railway this year. Three of the four best sprinters in NZ were the first three home and the 4th horse rated 101 but the average was only 100. A week earlier the Zabeel classic only raced 102. You are right we are going to end up like Italy. 1

The 2,000 Guineas is worth $550,000 this year, who knows what the Derby will be worth? We are on the verge of a golden age.

I may be nuts and hope you are right but if the the ten currently highest rated horses in NZ were in the same 10 horse field the average age wold be over 7 the average rating would be 103 and the best possible average for the first four home would be 105. Unless Imperatriz is the next melody belle and there are 10 around just as good nomates is 100% right our G.1 races are doomed.

Absolute stain on the Industry as was her lap dog John Allen.
