Russian Alsu - No wins at Alexandra Park!

Recommended Posts

Russian Alsu is an 11 year old Elsa mare that has won 5 races all at Cambridge I believe.

The unusual thing is that she had her 73rd start tonight at Alexandra Park and ran 3rd but has never ever won on that track.

Would it be some sort of record for a horse to have not won on the same course in so many starts?

Kelly Evander would be one you would need to check for that sort of record Brodie although may not have had nearly that many starts now I think about it.

Did Kelly Evander ever win a race? Don’t think she did, but 73 starts on one track without a win would be hard to beat I would say and an 11year old mare!

No two placings was her lot. From memory she had about 170 starts for two placings. Not sure of the actual number of starts on each track though.

What an absolute waste of time racing a horse for such a poor return.

Bred, owned, trained and driven by the same person. What a great hobby to have. Without these sort of people, Mr B O'connor, a lot of races would not have sufficient starters to even have a race. He and other like amateur trainers need to be encouraged and not run down or do we want only the Purdons, Dunns etc to be allowed to train. I am sure he loved every moment with the horse. Its no offence for him to start the horse when he wants to and we are under no obligation to back it so why is it so wrong for the horse to have kept racing. A bit like a mug golfer who buys and expensive set of clubs, has coaching lessons, pays his membership fees and plays off a 36 handicap. tell him its an aboslute wast of time!

I would tell him what a waste of time.

If a horse that nil can qualify then our qualifying times are too easy!

Have not got a problem with amateur trainers training horses but seriously if you line a horse up 168 times without getting any money then I would be questioning my ability to train or the horses ability!,,

He would’ve been far better training a horse that had some ability.

So you would tell the golfer who loves his leisure activity and pays good money he is waiting his time.  Come on Brodie your not that heartless. Not everyone is a champion or even average and that applies to horses.

If the horse qualified it is allowed to race. There are many that qualify and never win a race. Those that a trainer is paid to have will obviously have a shorter  race career  of they are no good however when it is your hobby and passion and you own and train then why not carry on. Its not costing you much except your time. No training fees, no driving fees, only food and nominations.

He bred the horse and loves it. Its not that easy to get another with some ability as you suggest if he is a hobby trainer.

Kelly Evander gained cult status when it was racing and I admire Mr O'Connor for perservering for so long and enjoying his passion

Harewood, so you admire mediocricy at the highest standard?

Seriously there would be bugger all owners or trainers in this country that would be prepared to feed and train a horse for 170 odd starts for 2 placings!

Ah Maybe not buggerall Maybe just one!

Cult status? Cull status more like it!

So does that make it wrong. For someone who loves harness racing you are very critical of anyone who doesnt adhere to Brodies criteria. Maybe just maybe you are not on the money on this one.

Brodie for Chairman of HRNZ. Lets just have All stars V Dunns etc every race.

So you don't like the very worst horses and you don't like the other end of the scale the All Stars who have the very best.

You are living in a mediocre fantasy land.

Where have I said I don’t like slow horses?

Love slow horses it makes punting far easier!

What I can’t understand is why someone would persevere with such a poor racehorse?

Of course it is up to the owner or trainer whether he wants to persist with it, but as a racing proposition Kelly Evander wasn’t one!

As for The Allstars their right to race whatever they want, doesn’t affect me financially whatsoever but it does affect everyone else in harness racing that is trying to make a living.
