    • Its not a very sharp bend that first bend on the grass.
    • Starting in front of the crowd
    • Rangiora grass track racing Sunday has race 3 being a trot over 1810metres???????? They say that it has been approved as a one off race????? Now I am trying to work out what fool asked to run a race for trotters starting practically on the bend? The track is 1764m and so there is a 46metre run to the first bend? It just defies any sort of logic to be running it 140metres shorter than the 1950metre normal starting point being very close to the sharp bend! It has been approved as a “ONE OFF” race so clearly it is not a fit and proper starting point! Some people are trying to paint the industry as being full on positive going forward which is great news if it happens, however when these blatantly stupid decisions are being made within harness, THE JURY MUST OUT!!!
    • Not according to the pools info I have been seeing on the TAB website each week. Pools are definitely down in win, place and trifecta betting from my records.  To me wagering growth means an increase in betting pool average not turnover. As you say turnover is easy to manipulate by throwing extra races and meetings in to jack up the numbers. Give me the averages of all the pool sizes from the last few years so I can see if pools are on the increase or not.
    • Pretty much agree...racing now seen as a televised sport and people now find a day at the races too boring and their time/money  spent better elsewhere. Ellerslie does well on the 'big days' when much of the hospitality is sold out.  Certainly more money made in the food and beverage than in the on course betting. PLus with 20 plus meetings a year , cant go back to the well every couple of weeks .Flemington makes most of its money in Cup week. The bigger crowds are generally around iconic meetings[ Kumara] and traditional holiday dates [Tauherenikau ].......give us your list and over next few weeks I'll take a peak at their key numbers. The Grand Tour numbers have been good , with the gate charge being paid by young folk for a day out at the races followed by well known musicians performing ! Certainly Grand Tour events I've witnessed have seemed successful , particularly NZ Cup day at Riccarton , a couple at Ellerslie and one at Pukekohe .. Christmas at the Races and Summer Racing  are two successful promotions which seem to have stood the test of time ! Anyway ,please list the Clubs that attract the large crowds  .
