Hopefully they'll get on top of it. There's always been a bit of bird flu around decade to decade. We had those blasted Flying Foxes jump species and kill horses once. Heaps of them flying around the place in the evening. I was heavily caught up in that Hendra virus breakout in the 90's , that killed a horse trainer and a horse Vet too. It was un-imaginarly scary time. thankfully they made a vaccine and controlled it thereafter. Speaking of Galahs , I heard a different squacking this morning instead of the usual Kookaburra's and Lo and behold here was some Galahs wandering around on the road outside the house. My little dog checking them out as we pulled out of driveway. was trying to shoo them off the road. Haven't been around here before , and they better move on as a python around here somewhere 😆. They are magnificent birds (just like the Kooka's, Cockatoo's and Magpies around the place). cannot stand the bloody crows though. was just taking some Budgies home to their owner after modifying their cage at my place. 2 Nights ago they were flapping like mad outside on my table workbench , so went to check them out and A great Big Carpet Python , 2m long bastard was sitting on top of the cage !! 😳😳 hadn't seen one here for 20 years , but had 2 budgies for 3 days , and one turns up looking for easy tucker. hooked him off on the end of a long rake , and dropped him over the fence to the neighbours. they normally hide all the time and you never see them. Will never be able to tell the Mrs though that snake turned up 🤣 , or she'll never come back home. (Just me and little Leo here at the moment) -

Significant changes have been approved to all three of next year’s Young Gun Finals at Alexandra Park. It’s been agreed that the Delightful Lady Classic for the 2YO Fillies and the North Island 2YO Trot Series Final will join the Cardigan Bay Stakes for 2YO Colts and Geldings in being worth $100,000. Previously they were at $70,000 and $50,000. All three series in 2026 will also see a change in dates. The Cardigan Bay Stakes and the Delightful Lady Classic will move from their May slot this year to Friday, March 20 while the North Island Series Final will be held on Rowe Cup night on May 1, a week earlier than this year. The first lot of heats for the Cardigan Bay and the Delightful Lady will be programmed for late January 2026 with the trotters’ heats getting underway in late March. “We think the changes are significant on a number of fronts,” says HRNZ’s Head of Racing and Wagering, Matthew Peden. “It is part of HRNZ’s ongoing strategy around utilisation of horses, with a view to having these 2YOs in our system sooner.” “It also highlights the volume and calibre of two-year-old racing there is now and that’s especially timely ahead of the upcoming yearling sales.” The NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sales kick off at Karaka on Saturday, February 15 before moving to Christchurch three days later (Tuesday, February 18). Of the three Young Guns finals the Cardigan Bay has the longest history. It dates back to the late 1970s and has been won by the likes of Chokin (1991), Il Vicolo (1993) and Merlin (2022) while Under Cover Lover (1997), Dream About Me (2015) and Spanish Armada (2016) have been among the gun fillies to win the Delightful Lady. Yeah, he hasn't tried to derail my career with falsehoods for quite some time. I commented on one of his Twitter posts and he blocked me, so all is well. I doubt he has mellowed out. I think his short-lived political career forced him delete absolutely everything, and if he ever wants to get back into politics, sending hitmen to random internet posters' houses and picking fights with kids probably isn't the way to get elected. I have continually asked him if he wants a boxing match for charity, given that he's such a charitable man, whether by choice or enforced by the courts, but he declines every time. I guess those photos of him alongside Joseph Parker are just a photo-op.
