    • Valdi de Souza, a popular figure within the breeze-up community who died at the age of 49 following a freak accident at work, will be remembered at Cork on Friday, July 25 when a race will be run in his memory.  De Souza rode over a couple of hundred winners as a professional jockey in his native Brazil and also enjoyed stints on the Saudi Arabian circuit. His finest hour in the saddle came when he partnered Rock Of Rochelle to win a Listed race at the Curragh for trainer Andrew Kinsella back in 2007.   As well as Holland, for whom he worked for 11 years, and Kinsella, de Souza enjoyed spells with Ken Condon and Willie McCreery. • Making her mark on a banner day for connections, Godolphin homebred Crimson Rose (Lope De Vega) powered to a four-length victory in Thursday's British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket. The 7-2 chance, a June 19 debut third at Chelmsford last time, was swiftly into stride and stalked the pace in a handy third through the initial stages. Bounding forward from the foot of the hill, she seized control approaching the final furlong and was ridden clear on the rise to outpoint Country Artiste (Supremacy) by in impressive fashion.   Crimson Rose is the first of three foals out of G3 Prix de Saint-Georges victrix Ideal Beauty (Invincible Spirit), herself a half-sister to the dam of G3 Prix Gerald de Geoffre runner-up Sir Chartwell (Churchill). The February-foaled homebred chestnut, whose second dam is Listed Prix Six Perfections winner Discernable (Elusive Quality), is full to a weanling colt and half to a yearling filly by Dark Angel. 5th-Newmarket, £40,000, Mdn, 7-10, 2yo, f, 6fT, 1:11.99, g/f. CRIMSON ROSE (IRE) (f, 2, Lope de Vega {Ire}–Ideal Beauty {Ire} {GSW-Fr, $116,397}, by Invincible Spirit {Ire}) Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $29,656. O/B-Godolphin; T-Charlie Appleby. • Friday, Newmarket, post time: 15:35, THE TATTERSALLS FALMOUTH STAKES-G1, £275,000, 3yo/up, f/m, 8fT Field: Cinderella's Dream (GB) (Shamardal), Crimson Advocate (Nyquist), Elmalka (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Running Lion (GB) (Roaring Lion), Atsila (Ire) (Phoenix Of Spain {Ire}), Elwateen (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), January (Ire) (Kingman {GB}), Lady Ilze (GB) (Territories {Ire}). TDN Verdict: Back on a straight track, the impressive G2 Dahlia Stakes winner Cinderella's Dream may be able to exact revenge on her G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes conqueror Crimson Advocate but there is no guarantee given the rate of progress of that rival. Surprisingly, Aidan O'Brien hasn't won this since 2017 but January ran well enough when third in the G1 Coronation Stakes to hold a major chance of bringing it back home to Rosegreen. As with many of the main clashes of the generations in recent times, the power has shifted markedly to the 3-year-olds with six of the last nine winners from that age group. In a race that can throw up surprises, Elwateen is of interest after her fourth in the 1,000 Guineas on the Rowley Mile here. Truly on the rollercoaster this year, she was tried in the Oaks but is back at a mile with Saeed bin Suroor unsure of her trip. [Tom Frary]. Friday, Newmarket, post time: 14:25, THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE STAKES-G2, £100,000, 2yo, f, 6fT Field: Argentine Tango (GB) (Mattmu {GB}), Mood Queen (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), Royal Fixation (GB) (Palace Pier {GB}), Shine On Me (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Spicy Marg (GB) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), Venetian Sun (Ire) (Starman {GB}). TDN Verdict: All eyes on Venetian Sun after her Albany win and she looks to have scared off a few potential rivals, but not the course-and-distance Listed Empress Stakes winner Argentine Tango who is as tough as they come. Palace Pier's juveniles are going strong so far and Royal Fixation is an intriguing representative despite having just a Thirsk novice under her belt. [Tom Frary]. Friday, York, post time: 14:45, THE WILLIAM HILL SUMMER STAKES-G3, £85,000, 3yo/up, f/m, 6fT Field: Electric Storm (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), Nighteyes (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), Rage Of Bamby (Ire) (Saxon Warrior {Jpn}), Tiger Bay (GB) (Harry Angel {Ire}), Arabian Dusk (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Beaujolais Nouveau (GB) (Twilight Son {GB}), Celandrine (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Enola Holmes (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), First Instinct (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}), Hold A Dream (Ire) (Bated Breath {GB}), Rogue Sensation (GB) (Too Darn Hot {GB}), Sayidah Dariyan {Fr}). TDN Verdict: Fourth in the G1 Commonwealth Cup, Sayidah Dariyan sets the standard in a renewal dominated by the 3-year-olds. Close in behind on form lines is First Instinct and the Sandy Lane third rates the biggest threat alongside Celandine, who beat Time For Sandals in last year's Lowther but hasn't been seen so far this term. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, Newmarket, post time: 16:35, THE AL BASTI EQUIWORLD, DUBAI JULY CUP-G1, £657,000, 3yo/up, 6fT Field: Inisherin (GB) (Shamardal), Jasour (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Night Raider (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), Notable Speech (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), Rogue Lightning (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), Run To Freedom (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}), Twilight Calls (GB) (Twilight Son {GB}), Believing (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), Flora Of Bermuda (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), No Half Measures (GB) (Cable Bay {Ire}), Big Mojo (Ire) (Mohaather {GB}), Ides Of March (Ire) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), Spy Chief (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Symbol Of Honour (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Whistlejacket (Ire) (No Nay Never). TDN Verdict: Notable Speech tightens up here, with the two pertinent questions being whether he can turn it on in the first part of the race and how good the established sprinters are. One of them is in his own stable, so Charlie Appleby must have a clear idea of where he sits with the Carnarvon and Sandy Lane winner Symbol Of Honour. Whistlejacket, who captured the July Stakes over course and distance at this meeting 12 months ago, was a touch unlucky in the Commonwealth Cup but needs to prove he is up to this calibre, while last year's July Cup favourite Inisherin just gets more and more disappointing as time goes on and looks more of a seven-furlong performer. It is a concern that the normally reliable Believing was below-par at Royal Ascot, but she is the kind of hard-knocking sprinter this race suits while Ides Of March is not out of it if things fall his way. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, Ascot, post time: 14:22, THE CORNISH ORCHARDS SUMMER MILE-G2, £140,000, 4yo/up, 7f 213yT Field: Dark Tornado (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), Haatem (Ire) (Phoenix Of Spain {Ire}), My Cloud (Ire) (Blue Point {Ire}), Never So Brave (Ire) (No Nay Never), Nostrum (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Point Lynas (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}), Prague (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Quddwah (GB) (Kingman {GB}). TDN Verdict: The Royal meeting's winners Haatem, My Cloud and Never So Brave clash here, with the former having the Stakes form having conquered the 10-furlong Wolferton. My Cloud went through the Royal Hunt Cup like a class act in the making and is full of untapped potential as a half-brother to Palace Pier, while Never So Brave showed in the Buckingham Palace what Sir Michael Stoute was prophesying in 2024. Last year's winner Quddwah is back at a more realistic level after his Queen Anne flop, but needs to regain some confidence. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, Newmarket, post time: 16:00, THE BET365 SUPERLATIVE STAKES-G2, £100,000, 2yo, 7fT Field: Bourbon Blues (GB) (Space Blues {Ire}), Italy (GB) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), Moonfall (Ire) (Starman {GB}), Raakeb (Ire) (Ten Sovereigns {Ire}), Saba Desert (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), Wild Desert (Ire) (Too Darn Hot {GB}), Venetian Lace (Ire) (Masar {Ire}). TDN Verdict: TDN Rising Star Italy beat the subsequent Chesham runner-up Thesecretadversary with a degree of panache at Leopardstown in May and it is hard to get away from the buzz that surrounds him. Charlie Appleby has an excellent record in this and William Buick is on the Sandown winner Saba Desert by Dubawi, who captured this in 2004 and has sired three winners of it. Stablemate Wild Desert did little wrong when turned over by the second-string Pacific Avenue in an important course-and-distance stepping stone last month and remains an exciting prospect. [Tom Frary]. Saturday, York, post time: 15:45, THE JOHN SMITH'S SILVER CUP-G3, £85,000, 4yo/up, 13f 188yT Field: Al Qareem (Ire) (Awtaad {Ire}), Maghlaak (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}), Onesmoothoperator (Dialed In), Samui (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}), Subsequent (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Tabletalk (Ire) (Camelot {GB}). TDN Verdict: Al Qareem looks the solid one on his second to Illinois in the Ormonde and when taking the course-and-distance Listed Grand Cup by storm. Subsequent is making his seasonal debut, having signed off at three with a win in the Listed Noel Murless Stakes and is from a stable that can do no wrong at present. [Tom Frary].
