  1. You really do have a complex about Te Akau. Have you actually spent time talking to David Ellis? Why wouldn't he want to lead in the horse he purchased, syndicated which won the slot he purchased?
  2. Why not a well sung national anthem in both languages and a trumpet call like they do at Ascot and Kentucky?
  3. Sounds about right. It is an AML safeguard.
  4. Just like Wellington but neither could continue with the additional liquor licensing rules/regulations that have just added expense to such days. Most people leave Auckland for New Year's Day. It is estimated that more than 200,000 a week over the Christmas period leave for other destinations.
  5. What would you learn? That those attending are on holiday (many from Auckland)?
  6. This turnout relative to population is a red herring. Let's face it when the races are on at Wingatui and the Highlanders aren't playing there is only one gig on in town. On Saturday aside from all the outstanding permanent attractions there are a million entertainment options for people to spend their discretionary dollar on. It's called competition and you can throw a zillion dollars at marketing an event and at some stage the marginal cost leads to negative return. If they got 10,000 people oncourse thats more than your average Blues game!! The other thing to consider is the hospitality ticket pricing at Ellerslie. What would you expect to pay for 6 hours of entertainment?
  7. It would be close to that.
  8. One of the earlier races as she was leaving the birdcage to head to the start. Horse got spooked. Brittany managed to contain the horse but the something really set it off and it went up and she went off. Was transferred to an ambulance and taken to hospital. Seems to have been a sanitis9ng operation undertaken - wouldn't want to detract from the big day. But no news leads to speculation unfortunately.
  9. Not where @Brodie would like it. He has been pipped so many times. He should adjust his Lazy Boy and watch the TV on a better angle.
  10. They're the ones that put the money up for the sweepstake. The owners negotiate how much of the pie they get. Easier if you are negotiating with yourself of course.
  11. Average ticket price?
  12. The latest explanation regarding @Freda 's post doesn't stack up at all.
  13. Ellis owns the slot AND the horse. Which one of the 20+ owners would you want to join him? Perhaps the Syndicate Manager? That would have made a nice picture
  14. Anyone know how Brittany Taylor is after her fall at Ellerslie yesterday? The lack of news isn't a good sign.
  15. Are you OK @Huey or are you citt9ng the hedge now?
  16. We're up for an aftermath and a half if Aftermath wins.
  17. The “Dead Horse Theory” is a satirical metaphor that reflects how some people, institutions, or nations face obvious problems that are impossible to solve, but instead of accepting reality, they cling to justifying them. The core idea is clear: if you find out you're riding a dead horse, the wisest thing to do is to get down and leave it. However, in practice, it is often the opposite. Instead of abandoning the dead horse, measures are taken such as: • Buy a new saddle for the horse. • Improve the horse's feed, even though it is dead. • Change the rider instead of addressing the real problem. • Fire the horse manager and hire someone new, hoping for a different result. • Organize meetings to discuss how to increase the speed of the dead horse. • Create committees or working teams to analyze the problem of the dead horse from all angles. These committees work for months, raise reports, and finally conclude the obvious: the horse is dead. • Justify efforts by comparing the horse to other similar dead horses, concluding that the problem was a lack of training. • Propose training courses for horses, which means increasing the budget. • Redefining the concept of "dead" to convince the horse still has a chance. Lesson Learned: This theory demonstrates how many people and organizations prefer to deny reality and waste time, resources, and effort on useless solutions, rather than accepting the problem from the start and making smarter and more effective decisions.
  18. I bet you've got a dog box!
  19. Where are you moving them to? The living room?
  20. Sacred Satono hasn't won a race in nearly a year. Babylon Berlin has chance. That said in your opinion there is 4 horses in the field that would be hard to beat.
  21. What's you point? Every stud has dud choices. What about the imported sprinter miners that did improve the NZ breed? Although in today's world a NZ Breed is a misnomer given how easy it is to import breeding stock from anywhere and send mares to Australia. They don't need to come over on a boat.
  22. That's not correct. Assuming when you are referring to sales series you mean the race series? Either way the vast majority of horses are NZ bred even though they might be by Australian based sires. The NZ breeding industry would be dead without the importation of new blood.
  23. Sure but your pocket will be disappointed a lot less.
  24. Really? You'd rather be mowing your lawns. But you'd spend a zillion dollars causing the dream of winning an Oaks or a Derby.
  25. The TAB operator at an agency had a little book which he wrote you bet in. It had a carbon copy and you were handed the bet slip which was on yellow paper. Well that's how I remembered it.
