Give me a break @Gammalite !!!! Racing isn't two up or tiddly winks! If owners don't get a fair return for their investment (even if it is negative) then who provides the product?

This Big Saturday format on Trackside is doing my head in.

Don't disagree but stakes of $4k ain't going to cut the mustard for long.

Which proves my point. I'm not begrudging them a win at all. However if you adjust the handicaps to retain horses longer and to make races more competitive i.e. an attractive betting proposition then REVENUE increases. You also miss the point that costs not much less to train a "slow poke" as it does a Champion. You may spend more on vet fees for the latter. A competitive "slow poke" race will return more net revenue than Group races - why should the "slow pokes" and their owners subsidise the elite?

A win in a $4k race wouldn't pay a months training bills even before deductions.

They got their extra 3 points on their Grp 1 wins.

What is the "agenda"? To kill racing? What is the "Strategy"? Isn't it time for a reset?

It's true @Freda none of the current adminstrators nor many from the past 20 years understand the key drivers for racing. In my opinion there are two key objectives: Provide a surface that horses can race on safely; Maximise the length of time that horses can compete. Now there are many things that can be done to meet those objectives. Just imagine for a moment a 14 horse field full of 8 year old geldings that all have a chance of winning.

No because there is no administrator in racing that understands racing. MIA Sharrock is the mantra.

Has some potential. Family challenges, pub challenges, around the table challenges, raceday oncourse syndicates. Just need one tech savvy person to help set it up and then everyone can play. Used to be a real pain oncourse with a group of people keeping track with a one day syndicate and only having the blank page at the back of the racebook. Which they eventually took away as a cost saving measure!

One of the drawbacks I've had with Syndicates in the past is keeping everyone informed about what the bets were. Copying exotic multi's to text for was a nightmare.
