RA bans the use of stockings for tongue ties Racing Australia has changed the rules on the use of tongue ties. Photo: Racing Post. Article Author Racenet10:15AM17 February 2020 0 Comments The days of trainers using a stocking as togue ties for horses will come to an end at the end of next month. Racing Australia has quietly introduced a rule banning the use of “nylon stocking and adhesive bandage” for tongue ties. RA’s Veterinary and Analysts Committee and the Chairman of Stewards Committee combined to propose the rule change. The RSPCA has voiced its opposition to the use of tongue ties, arguing they cause horses pain, anxiety and distress with difficulty swallowing as well as possible damage to the tongue by restricting blood flow. The new rules will require trainers to fit a leather strap or rubber band of at least 15mm in width or a Lycra or neoprene tongue tie at least 50mm wide. The new rule comes into force on April 1. Warrnambool trainer Daniel Bowman noted there had been no consultation with trainers and jockeys before RA changed the tongue tie rules. The use of tongue ties is banned altogether in Germany while other jurisdictions restrict the use of the gear during winter months.

Thomaas - surprise, surprise, surprise. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Didn't need blinkers - jumped perfectly. Didn't run like a drunken sailor. Quick time on a soft track. Catalyst would have appreciated it firmer. Good effort - definitely up to the best in OZ.

C. S. Hayes Stakes 2020 - Alligator Blood vs Catalyst

Williams believes the Clayton Chipperfield-trained Catalyst is on track to be better than his dad. “He’s more talented than Darci Brahma, he’s got more brilliant acceleration,” Williams said. “You have a look through the 200m sectionals of his win at Ellerslie first-up and how fast they are – and that’s knowing he wasn’t at his best.” After a slow start to the Gr.3 Mr Tiz Trophy (1200m) at Ellerslie last month, Catalyst was able clock a sizzling 43.87-second last 800m of the race that saw him break 11 seconds for three consecutive 200m splits from the 800m to the 200m, equating to a world-class 32.19 600m burst that paved the way to his sixth win from just seven starts. -
Japanese rules: 5. Starting Gate Loading Procedures All JRA races use a Starting Gate System. The Starting Gate is a movable set of stalls with gates that open simultaneously at the start of the race. Prior to running in races conducted by the JRA, only horses which passed a gate test prior to the final declaration are able to run in the race. During the gate test, the starter will check the necessary loading procedures for a minimum twice, and a horse needs to be approved by the starter as being capable of loading, standing still and leaving (jumping out of) the stalls. Trainers are required to inform the JRA after the preliminary nomination if the horse has any unruly or specific behavior at the start. However, no special loading request will be permitted apart from request to load the horse first for efficient loading. Loading will take place under the direction of the starters. As a general rule, horses with odd numbers in the draw will be loaded first, followed by those with even numbers, and the horse with the highest number in the draw will be loaded last no matter whether the number is odd or even. This procedure is taken for the safety of horses and people concerned, for speedy and efficient loading to start the race. However, horses with blindfolds or those horses with bad records at loading may be loaded first no matter whether the draw is odd or even. Should there be an unruly horse with the highest number, the starter may decide to load the horse with the second highest number draw last.

You are an idiot Thomaas. All these extra requirements at the barriers have arisen through pandering to poorly prepared horses. The Japanese doesn't allow barrier blankets nor barrier attendants up on the barriers during the start. If a horse cannot behave without these then it cannot start. Prince of Arran second in the Melbourne Cup requires a barrier blanket and was not given compensation to use one when they were keen to take the horse to race in Japan.

A scratching. Catalyst now starts from 7. -
The key point is there was no criminal case to answer. Subsequently one could argue that the RIU should have dealt with the matter through the JCA process in the first place.

Why don't they need Barrier Blankets in Japan?

Keep back tracking Thomaas. The fact is you didn't know about the Tongue Tie first time until AFTER the race when you looked at the results. Any serious punter would have known the Te Akau Shark gear change first happened in OZ. But we know you are not a serious punter don't we? Also a serious punter probably wouldn't have taken much notice of the gear change in terms of assessing value. So we can't trust your stupid blueprint in OZ?
