The point is why do they need rebates? They've done this without any incentive although they have had subsidies.

Nice thoughts Jess. I hope he comes back to racing. The lad has real talent. I think he understands horses as most good riders do. A far better option than dairy farming.

So essentially this dog diagnosed by a vet on course as having kennel cough is scratched. Kennel cough is highly contagious. Two days later it has a miracle cure. Supposedly not vetted? Races and wins. Smells like a cur to me.

Exactly. If you are in front or on the pace do you have to stick to the paint? NOPE. Most jocks who know the inside is off start angling for the best part of the track around the final bend.

You forget the biggest factor of all Thomaas. The track might be "off on the inside" but if you don't have an intelligent jockey on board for a start who steers to advantage then you are wasting your time. Now if a horse is ridden differently ("upside down") because of the supposed track conditions what then? All the extra info that you want is irrelevant when at the end of the day the bottom line is the ability of the horse. Now back to the subject of what an appalling track Te Rapa has become.

Good on them. But rebates really? Why do they need them if they are just in it for fun?

Off beam there Zephyr. This topic is about whether or not BGP should get rebates on their betting. Given who is running the show it would be extremely unlikely that any impropriety is occurring. So leave the speculation out and get back to the rebate issue. Now I know that that issue has touched a few nerves in a struggling industry.

I guess and the tickets included some hospitality did it not. So the subsidisation of drinks occurred. But why increase the sweetner by giving them a rebate on their bets?

What I don't get is their business model has so far worked without a rebate. I don't see how a rebate improves the return to the industry. Perhaps NZRB should flick some of their marketing budget to them if they want to make more money.

Not a stupid idea. But it would have to be set up with controls in place. Maybe Reefton acting as auditor etc. I can see the headline now - BOAY vs BGP - head to head.
