There has been 12mm of irrigation applied for the week, 3mm of that in the last 24 hours. The rail is in the true position, as it was at the recent meeting on February 23. Yarra Valley is a 1684m long track with a short, 232m long straight. The 1500m and 1950m stating points have short runs into the first bend and barriers/tactical speed can be important. The 1200m starting point is the most generous with a long run out of the chute and down the back straight before they navigate the home bend. Benalla Benalla is rated a Good 4 with a penetrometer of 5.33. There has been 33mm of irrigation applied for the week, 3mm of that in the last 24 hours. The rail is true with the exception of the section from the 1600m mark to the 400m mark where it is out 3m. Benalla has a sweeping home bend that generally allows horses from rearward positions to work into the race moreso than at other tracks. The straight is a generous 380m long. There is four starting positions down the back straight. The 1100m start has a relatively short run into the home bend and position in running can be crucial. The 1200m, and 1400m starts both have good runs into that home bend while the 1600m start is out of a chute down the bottom of the track and it has a lovely, long run into the one bend.
