  1. It's a grey area as they say...a relegation occurred in Australia a couple of years ago but there's no way it'd be happening here.. ...but there's no rule against asking for a ruling here as far as I know at present... France now have the 5 whip limit...Britain 7... One could argue for a 1/2 strike over that before being DQ'd...and for sure it'd stop... Parkes striking Wheelers horse 45 times when winning by a nose while the runner up remains unable to protest is simply ridiculous though..
  2. We're talking a 'Ratings based system' here...you're talking something that's not available any more...HK, AUS, SINGAS ...an RBS where sexs need to mix due to the fact our population base is decreasing.. Imagine that Mare being compared to the Colt and having her performance analysed in comparison... ...she's back racing against her own sex after winning...but only receives a marginal increase in her re -Handicap to the runner up...who has to cop it sweet in your world? Then forcing a new season 3yo Filly to race against older 4yo Colts at level weights off a similar rating is looney tunes... Once the Handicap race has been run off a fair system of WFA allowances then a rating adjustment can be more accurately assessed... I know of no system in the World that forces a same age Filly and Colt to race off the same level weight in a first start Handicap as your system requires either.. No wonder your 'ideas' were turned down by NZTR
  3. Before we had the 'trial' process of getting them fit to race..this is what we had... Punters would assess fitness levels by sharp birdcage analysis and make their choices... Nowdays we also have the various 'market' prices to help us as well...who's screwed up and who isn't... Most Trainers when being interviewed are fairly honest in their assessments these days as well... It is what it is in a difficult environment these days isn't it?
  4. You do what Ellis did...realising our racing has depleted top class Males...the Blue Bloods sold at yearling sales... ...go buy a speedy Australian bred mare who usually dick our slower Mares... You can't adjust a system every couple of years to suit the flavour of the time.... ...and you think 2 kgs = 0.2L as well Maestro?
  5. Oh blardy marvellous.... So another first start Colt comes along of equal ability to the other Colt...who beat the Filly on level weights... ...and meets the Filly with the re-Handicap for running 2nd...on even better terms to the first Colt... ...you're not too good at this 'Handicapping' are you? Heres another conundrum for you... 3 Horses finally meet in a Race...all on Rating 70...a 4yo Colt....a Mare who's so far started in 2 Mares only races...and an early season 3yo filly who's also started only in her age group... Would you start all horses off the same weight with their 70 rating?
  6. So the physiologically superior Colt carrying the same weight beats the Filly by 0.2L and proceeds to the next grade and onto greater Premier Racing riches... ...while the Filly remains in the same grade battling superior built Colts on the same Handicap again Meanwhile In the other World of Ratings based Handicapping with Female allowances...Myrtle has at least an even chance of beating Bertyl with an allowance and progressing into the next grade... ..with TRANSPARENT Ratings included while receiving a fair allowance to enable a smoother transition... Denying there's an advantage to physiologically superior animals in Colts over Fillies and you'll also be denying a younger AGE animal needs a weight allowance to compete fairly.. ..which is what we give 3yo's on a sliding scale through the season in Rating's based Handicaps agin Older horses...as well as WFA... To deny any of that is to deny the Admiral even existed and he should have been a Cabin Boy...
  7. So infinitesimal difference then....even though the experienced BHA handicappers believe otherwise? So you think less body weight translates into being faster and fleet of foot as well? Thats counterintuitive however...the superior physiologically developed Male will be always too strong... Then, 2 horses re handicapped for a similar win and the more robust horse (Stallion) will be less affected when anchored with heavier weights..especially over longer distances... Its a common narrative...that of a Male with 'weight carrying ability'...very seldom Youll hear of the opposite sex... Almost all first starters in Australasia are starting in Set Weight Maiden races though...and it provides a very good start for a Female to enable a fair transition through the Rating bands... ...rather than starting off behind the eight ball... So let's take your example of even weights if they start off in a Handicap... You acknowledge a Colt v Filly having their first starts will be at level weights in a Handicap then?
  8. Great news story this....The Trump supporters will be over the moon! Khadijah Mellah celebrating her win aboard Haverland (Image: Mark Cranham) Mellah's moving Magnolia Cup win Racing Post@RacingPost 10:25am , ( With tears rolling down her face after being greeted with a spine-tingling roar from the Goodwood crowd, Khadijah Mellah knew she had done something quite extraordinary. The 18-year-old south Londoner had just become the first person in Britain to ride in a race wearing a hijab and, after guiding the Charlie Fellowes-trained Haverland to victory in the Magnolia Cup, she became the first rider to win in a hijab. The charity race was a first for Australia also with VRC ambassador Georgia Connolly the first Australian woman to take part in the 1100-metre sprint down the Goodwood straight. Connolly's mount Gallant Trade did not perform to expectations, however, as she finished well out of the placings. Mellah, who learned to ride at the Ebony Horse Club in Brixton, only started being partnered with thoroughbreds in April but, with the Magnolia Cup charity race in aid of Wellbeing of Women in mind, her hard work and dedication paid off as she registered a historic win when getting the better of Land Filly, who was ridden by BBC weather presenter Alexis Green, by three-quarters of a length. Her coolness in the race, during which she delivered her mount with a powerful late challenge up the stands' side, quickly turned to ecstasy as she realised the magnitude of her incredible achievement. Mellah, who was priced as the 25-1 outsider with Ladbrokes against rivals including Olympic cycling champion Victoria Pendleton and model Vogue Williams, said: "There are no words to describe it and I can't believe it. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell that happened." Haverland travelled in mid-division in the 12-runner field before making ground, but Mellah was soon encountering an age-old problem faced by so many jockeys at Goodwood previously. She said: "There was still a line of horses in front of me - it was like a brick wall and the kickback was flying in my face so I thought I would pull out and see what happens. "When I looked and saw the horses behind me at the line I just thought, 'Oh my god, what is happening'. "Then I saw all my family and friends and I started crying uncontrollably, it was amazing." Mellah, who is awaiting her A-level results and hopes to study mechanical engineering at university, added: "It shows ambitious women can make it and that's all I want to represent. "I have had so much support and I can't wait to see other stories of other women getting into the industry and doing amazing things."
  9. So in your opinion what will 2 kgs translate into ground gained? And do you recognise the physiological differences between an average Staillion and Mare results in a physically smaller mare version by @ 40/50kgs on average? Take 2 first starters...a Colt and Filly..both born the same day... If starting off at level weights without a Fillies allowance, the physically superior Colt should win... What becomes immediately apparent is the Colt will progress to the next Rating band...while the filly stays in the same band... And that's your problem with "handicapping on shown recent ability" Our system of mixing sexes, will have a bunch of inferior mares at the bottom of a Rating band, struggling to go through to the next level, when they're denied an opportunity to race with a balancing up of the physiological negative.
  10. Pretty amazing recovery less than 24 hrs later..receiving a massage and looking for food!
  11. So you did this for them unsolicited? "Exactly what you and I did when we examined the NZ handicapping data pre and post the rating changes for NZTR. Except that we were able to go a step further by using current ratings as a proxy for ability as well" Did it find the female allowance unfair...and did you recommend anything as an alternative other than return to the previous system? What the neysayers appear to be wanting in all of this is not a Weight for Age/sexes system... ..but a Weight for Abilty one... Winx's superior cadence 'ability' receives 5 kegs more than a physiologically superior Stallion with less cadence and /or stride..which results in a blanket finish Obviously what WFA Racing is about... ...is evening up chance by acknowledging physiologically inferior characteristics at different/permanent stages rather than actual ability... ...which should provide us with a Championship winner
  12. Very concerning RL's had to undergo more surgery to remove a further 4M of intestine... ...will Insurance premiums skyrocket when it comes to this part of the World now?
  13. Why not cut the 'retrospective' stuff Curie... Just put up your alternative and we'll discuss your 'way better' system...
  14. That's right, forgot they've got a sliding scale... If she'd done an 'Opee on Watch Officer' she'd have got a month... usually in winter we have a whole lot more of this...either the Stipes have gone to sleep or the Jocks have woken up!
  15. Oh my...says someone who can't understand basic "retrospective" Englaise... All one needs to read in this Racing rant from your 'James' ( obviously you know him) is the last conclusion... "it isn't possible to make a definitive case" after his 'massive' 5 years... Yea that...why doesn't he write his own 'Handicapping Shang Gree La' then... ...like you and your Besty did for NZTR...who binned it as unworkable... It wouldn't have included a wide range by any chance...which would have seen even more of a mass exodus to Aus. with a less severe system that's acceptable to most stakeholders?? Perhaps you'd be so kind to put your ideas up here on what you'd proposed and we'll disect the 'document' Im hoping it'll include an acknowledgement that the physiological difference between not only immature age horses is there...but the fact females are physiologically smaller on average as well... Perhaps your 'system' will include the ability to weigh each participant and/or include the exact birth dates instead of a one fits all option? cant wait...thanks
  16. Says someone who can't read basic race results..and doubles down when it's pointed out..next btw why are you starting new threads when a topic has already been established? weird
  17. And of course the other thing that happened in the Admirals day... Is Stallions still raced while they were older horses.... These mares are racing against males who would have been distanced by older Now retired to Stud Stallions...that's a big modern day racing difference... Physiologically horses peak just before they reach 5...although some continue to @ 7... ...mares receive the allowance because they physically weigh lighter cf Stallions and nowdays Geldings... Ask a Stallion reaching maturity at an average of 500kgs....compared to a fully mature average Mare at 470kgs to carry the same Handicap weight... ...and they'll gleefully accept... The Admiral however knew better...and said.... " here, have a couple of kilos off...or 0.25 secs start" That evened the ledger..and here endeth your lesson Cheers Admiral...you da man...
  18. If ever this cliche needed to be used...it was in this race! Vinnie was so far up VAN BLANC he could have expended the same going up the Mont...drifted out to last....then Winnie went into overdrive...and ...NEVER GAVE UP...one round the ass..then a two...unfortunately for him he broke the whip rules down the straight...but who cares in NZ...the Stipes love Winnie and they'll simply ignore it...because Vinnie... ...NEVER GAVE UP... ...like Taylor Wenn did in forf place...who should have run 3rd...SHE GAVE UP... ...even though she's GEORGUS...they'll send her to the salt mines for a month...unlike Vinnie Who...NEVER GAVE UP Oh...did I mention BLINKERS ON first time?? Yea, they helped enormous...and probably why it drifted in the first place! Did they make Van go faster? Yea of course...like a rocket in fact
  19. It's actually quite sickening how Johnny cum Lately modern day 'experts' want to dump on the genius Admiral who arrived at this piece of art... "The uncertainty of handy capping which I have observed does not always give general satisfaction," Admiral Rous wrote in 1849. "Every great handicap offers a premium to fraud: in vain may the Jockey Club protest and express their supreme disappointment of horses being started for races with the intention of owners of not trying to win; horses are started out of condition" … and … "On the subject of handy capping there is nothing so easy as to find fault; it is a capricious field for scribblers on racing topics, the most honourable gentleman may object to be set up as a popinjay for the mark of every scribbler". You sir, appear to be one of his much hated 'scribbler's'...keep scratching
  20. It's all on Dr. Google Freda..Im a bit tied up at the mo and you can blame...not moi for that!
  21. Hahahahaha...just caught up with this wee peace brother....hahahaha... I needed a side splitter after coming back to knuts freezing bollocky bollocks climate change NZ...Global Warming?? Cindy's doing a great job in the Tokelau's....I didn't even know they're Keewees just like you and me... ..and how great is it Cindy has taken them into her bosom like you and me eh? That job must suck sometimes....having to take flak from nillers like Slimon while you're sweating your ass off for the Country?? All the while giving interviews to International Magazines and making Keewees even prouder than they already are!! Get your copy today Koppa....It'll chur you up no end you grizzly old f'er best
  22. Yes it happened recently at Awapuni...and it was WITHIN THE RULES...OK.? Parkes of course...and won by a nose ...he who whipped one of Wheelers 45 times at the last NZ Cup meeting...outside of the Rules...Just...won by a nostril as well...but NO protest allowed! NZ is terribly out of touch with the rest of the World on this...and all NZTR have to say is "we're keeping our EYE on it...possibly an announcement coming??" Yea...meanwhile our Highweight/Amatuer riders continue to smash their way to victory... Luke Myers at it again last week...a 2 day holiday...hopeless got as hopeless did And of course at the recent Royal AssKit meeting...all the talk was around the Woman Jockey Hayley Turner breaking the whip rule by 4 strikes...11all up.... ...where the Trainer of the said horse....Charlie Fellows said.. " she should have been DQ'd...the future of our sport depends on new blood...and the new blood don't like what they see" Yea...what he said
  23. Cmon Weas...Ive gone through 3 packets of old snifters and a block of pixie caramel waiting for the ANSWER!! Hickman's outfit?
  24. Ok ATA Ive had a quick look over there...wtf?? Some half wit came up with this.. "yes and thinks an apprentice allowance helped the winner of the Taumarunui Cup and doesn't understand what the pricing means. No mention of my fancied Dez winning at value." ...so this wag thinks we have to "mention" his 'value' bet evidently?? Hahahaha What these Half wits didnt realise was the poor recent form of this horse was due to the fact said neddy underwent a wind operation last year and was over racing...struggling to get its wind back...that's what happens with this affliction ..but these half wits aren't horseman... ...so the tongue tie went on and what a surprise...settled beautifully without struggling for breath... ...and of course the 3kgs had absolutely no influence on the result in the Cup.. ...they probably think the 13 winners straight in the CD and 10 winners straight at Timaru had nothing to do with the App allowances either... ....some 'punters' are just pig ignorant I guess...
  25. And of course if the hopelessly out of touch RIU had agreed to provide even a simple Pen. Reading for these meetings.. ..we'd have known Rots was close to an upgrade and that Otaki was as wet as the river bed it was built on... ...but Punters had to guess...or take it as face value that H11 tracks were EXACTLY the same... ...which turned out to be 25L difference...what a joke Oh and their new fandangled 'Track Manager Video' for the Otaki track... ...never got to the shredding floor let alone the Production suite... f me
