  1. And they want drivers to take a cut on their driving fees what a cheek
  2. The horse is recovering from an injury.... first run in a while.
  3. Agree! He just didn’t have enough left to beat them. That’s racing!!
  4. Agree that you have to help yourself. We are pretty self reliant and use a lot of different tricks from different trainers and find our own way. A lot of it is a learning curve. Passion takes you a long way too.
  5. Have some connections I. The South Island but not a working relationship. Something to consider definitely. grass meetings are great. The summer racing has a lot of opportunities. I my opinion we don’t have enough grass meetings. would absolutely sell a good horse. The goal is to get the younger horses and see where they take us. The older horses certainly have their place but it’s the young ones that can set you apart from the rest. excellent questions!!
  6. If we had the funds absolutely. The only place we look is the South Island you can’t deny the quality
  7. It’s very hard to break even. Unless you are charging your owners a decent amount but then it’s hard to justify if you are just starting out and finding your feet with it all. The big picture of establishing a name and growing the stable is the goal. leadership.... what’s that! The only guidance you get is when you ask fellow trainers for help. There are some great helpful people out there I have to say. Lots of people prepared to lend a hand.
  8. As in both not only harness racing but personally our stable. It’s rough work competing with the big stables but can only keep pushing on trying to make it. Just need that one special one to turn the tide and take on the best
  9. They sure have. The barns getting a decent tidy up before they start up
  10. From my point of view from where we sit as we only have a small team we need more races that suit our horse. cambridge is where ours are suited however we ideally want Auckland type horses. getting young ones coming through and getting our name out there is key. getting involved more beyond just training and being a bit out of the loop to the goings on. From the people I talk too getting some young blood involved with things like kidz kartz. The younger trainers and drivers would connect well.... Scott Phelan springs to mind he could certainly pump a lot of enthusiasm in to the sport.
  11. I don’t have any direct dealings with kids side of things however from where I sit in this game the issue is they need decent places for the juniors to work.... hardly any decent jobs that bring opportunities and a semi decent income. Unless you come from a family back round it’s going to be very difficult to get your career going up here. The ones that do deserve a pat on the back it’s pretty tough going So many improvements could be made.... the $ side of things I don’t know....we just battle on the way things are and hope that things get a lot better. Putting in 100% effort regardless of the other side factors not in our control
  12. This sites pathetic. I’m back to racecafe much more positivity on there. North Island racing battling enough without everyone be a critic.
  13. So why assume team driving why not just say it was a bad drive? There is a huge Difference.
  14. Won not one.
  15. So he knows the ins and out of every driver and horse....must be superman. So annoying the negativity. Maybe the horse that one was just the best one on the night god forbid
