As usual more spin doctoring from the NZ TAB..

the no deductions is a good promo for punters but for the NZ TAB it will hurt their bottom line. Last month turnover up and profit down and that's with all the so-called cuts to expenditure along with the efforts of RITA 🙄. No change in the opening %'s yeah right - last week markets that were in the past opening at around 130% were as high as 149%. Bonus bets back to 5th on selected races thrown in with a lot of other good punter promo incentives are good only one problem turnover goes up and profit has gone done = recipe for disaster. Another problem is they don't have people with experience and knowledge who know the wagering industry. Rule 4 has been around for 100 years for a reason, bookmakers don't want their profits getting butchered if a fav is taken out. Most bookmakers will apply no deductions if the runner is a longshot but as for a favourite runners no way especially close to post time when their book % is matching the tote odds. It won't be history getting shaken up it will be their end of year financial result. If a wagering partner takes over 100% you won't see a promo like this around.

More funding? your having a laugh.

How can the NZ TAB call Australian bookmakers unregulated, every bookmaker Company in Australia has to be registered with their States and pay the Racing Industry fees including NZ. The NZ TAB offered no deductions and bonus bet refunds on a customer's horse finishing 2nd to 5th those are promotions you won't find offered in Australia, so NZ have a completive edge there.

Your right don't need to bring up old stories like that to prove the RIU"s incompetence they can easily do that themselves eg INCA.
-
Yes kids didn't need to know the details for sure I agree, and I guess neither did his wife.

You don't need to have any police training to read between the lines and know the first comment is an absolute load of crap - you ever hear of a woman having her rings and clothes needing to be removed while having a cup of tea? Gobber is either thick or was assisting in covering it up. You make up your own minds on that one. I know which one I would be going for. Although to be fair both could apply in this case.

Apologies my info when it happened was incorrect she did die in hospital. Racing industry anti-corruption boss should resign over fatal affair, says husband | Stuff.co.nz
-
Not sure if she died a few days later as reported I heard she was dead while in the motel room. Things that make you go mmmm. If she did die in the motel room then there was a cover up.

It did make the media here I never read it at the time. Under fire racing official Ross Neal resigns | Stuff.co.nz

Cover up 100%

Should have got charged by the police for tampering with evidence. When someone dies like she did in a motel room it's against the law to alter, touch and remove any item until the police have investigated. This happening with people involved in seeing that integrity is upmost in an Industry. As you say despicable and also unbelievable. They did get stood down while the matter was looked into - yeah right.

Estimate? Looking at recent budgets and actuals they don't estimate - they pluck figures out of fairy tale books. If they actually believe GRO blocking will save them they really do have no idea. E

Got a strange feeling he might not be working there any longer, might have seen the light. Might even be working for one of the codes 😉 -
while the hapless DIA is involved in providing advice to a Racing Minister and putting together policy to make changes to the Racing Act. Excerpt from briefing to the then new Racing Minister. The Treasury Dept was overseeing the TAB's finances which I doubt they wanted that to continue. The DIA dummies informed the Minister that the TAB has traded its way to a healthier position. The TAB net profit in 20/21 before distribution was $178 million supposably 35% more than forecast - what a load of absolute bullshit. The previous year the before distribution was $162 million so the NZ TAB decide to allow the budget forecast to be $132 million. No wonder the forecast budget was 35% more in actual figures they dropped it by $30 million on the previous year. It would be more appropriate to advise the Minister the actual funding to the codes. The only time you would use a NZ TAB forecast budget would be in a COVID lockdown. The slack dummies I bet didn't say to the Minister the NZ TAB still require monitoring, they rail roaded that no doubt by saying they are in a healthier position. If you want to read the so called 'in confidence' report link is below. The NZ racing Industry was better served by the NZ Racing Authority who had knowledge and expertise in wagering and the racing industry, once the DIA took over their role it was the beginning of the end. The DIA would struggle to put out a policy on how to lick a stamp. If they did say that the TAB don't require any further monitoring because they are in a healthier state someone needs to get rail roaded as they obviously believed the crap they were fed by the TAB as results now show. When you consider over recent months people on this site said things were bad and would get worse you also have to wonder why the codes never had the ability to see that as well. Once again they believed the crap fed to them. I wonder when the TAB are going to meet the codes to explain exactly went wrong - yeah right - they would have more of a chance to meet Father Christmas, the Tooth fairy and the Eater Bunny https://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/Files/Briefings-to-incoming-ministers-2022/$file/BIM-Racing-2022.pdf BIM-Racing-2022.pdf (dia.govt.nz)

The net suplus of $3.8 million against total expenses of $13.8 milion is crazy for an Organisation which other than fines doesn't produce revenue especially when you take into account that the above is based on a 13 month period from 1st July 2021 to 31 July 2022. A good 12 month budget shouldn't be hard to produce as once you have worked out your fixed costs with an increase of around 6% based on the previous 12 months and also factorng into the equation a more or less number of racedays that should give a fair and acceptable figure to having funding applied from the NZ TAB.

One matter the Statement of Intent didn't cover was the financial implications on the Racing Industy if the banning of Greyhound racing gets leglislated in the next two years which is a distinct possibilty. If Greyhound racing is banned in NZ the resulting collateral financial damage on the Racing Industry will be huge. Racefield fees on NZ Geyhound races were only slightly behind what was received by NZ gallops and three times greater than NZ Harness. Last season there were approximately 480 greyhound meetings, 290 gallops and 250 harness. I don't know what the revenue on greyhound racing was last season but I do know if you take them out of the equation it will result in a huge downturn in profit distibution to the other two codes as less revenue will be going towards paying NZ TAB fixed costs . Currently there is a petition before the Government to ban greyhound racing in NZ, it was put foward by the Greyhound Protection League whose spokespeson has for many years tried to get Greyhound racing closed down. Most countries have now banned Greyhound racing and the NZ GPL have strong backing from a number of Ministers with the strongest voice Chlöe Swarbrick from the Greens. The petitions committee to foward their submission findings to the Government comprised of Hon Jacqui Dean (Chairperson), Rachel Boyack Steph, Lewis Nicole, McKee Sarah, Pallett Teana Tuiono, Chlöe Swarbrick participated in much of the consideration of the petition. I doubt any of those members have a good knowledge of racing in NZ and would be easily swayed by the GPL and other anti Greyhound Racing groups. I hope Swarbrick has attended a Geyhound meeting to observe how the dogs are vetted and treated if injured but sadly I doubt she has. If she spoke to trainers and owners I am sure she would have found that nearly all of the connections have the best interests of their dogs health and well being as their number one priority. The petition commitee's report (link below) to the Government on the future of NZ Geyhound Racing is rather bleak. The NZGA and the RIU knew it's going to be tough going addressing the petitions reasons why the code should be banned so it's a worry to read the quoted section below of the report. If the information required was supplied in time for their deliberations then obviously it wouldn't have resulted in such a negative comment and lessening confidence in the Code and RIU's handling of the complaints and concerns. New animal welfare team for all three racing codes At the date of its written submission in April 2022, the RIB was developing a new animal welfare team to work across all three racing codes (greyhounds and the two horse-racing codes). The function of the team is to support and monitor the operation and effectiveness of each code’s animal welfare policies and initiatives. It is also expected to promote and ensure compliance with animal welfare standards. The RIB expected the animal welfare team to be in place in time for the new racing year in August 2022. However, three months later, in November 2022, we did not find an online reference to the new team. They shouldn't have been required to do a search online re a new animal welfare team they should have been advised in writing 01 August 2022. The GPL and Swarbrick are now going to use it for further ammunition that the Industry didn't take the concerns raised seriously enough, reading between the lines its obvious thats also the thoughts of the Petition committee especially when reading their last comment. https://www.parliament.nz/resource/en-NZ/SCR_130029/39fb0f8f6799ca645a5e750b3daf32b2a08d0f23

Sadly not for the punters, it hasn't even started yet and I just pulled a random race from tomorrow race 2 at Gatton NZ TAB race fixed odds % = 138% and NSW TAB = 128%. Thats a big differential. Will only get worse if GEO blocking comes in. Payment of race fees from Australian bookmakers is done voluntarily by them, the ones currently paying might reconsider if they have current customers in NZ blocked from using their servicers via the internet. If it does come in the collateral damage in another area may cost them millions but I doubt that is getting factored in.

Millions of the policing budget. There was never anything to investigate and if there was one would expect the RIB Betting Analyst and his staff to have picked up any betting irregularities although to be fair you still need to know what your looking for. I only saw three races mentioned which were supposably part of the so-called betting ring, all three involved were opening fixed odds race favourites, when a fix is on in a race or a sports game the gamblers don't bet the favourites, the Black Sox in the 1919 World Series is a classic example of that. If it was as big as it was made out to be to the media why did it take someone from outside the RIB to get the ball rolling? It was bad information supplied from day one and those investigating it had no idea which the end results show. Be surprised if there isn't a claim made for legal expenses to be compensated for.

'Proud to return $18.5 million to communities', they are only $17 million out. The first figure below is the total amount requested by sports organisations and the second one is the actual received. $140,000 was retuned by various Clubs. The RIB costs from a few years ago to today is astronomical.

Very valid point. I don't think McGrath deserves any negative feedback that needs to be pointed at those who instigated the process to proceed. Anyone in McGraths shoes gets offered a deal to suit they are going to put their hands up. The old boys network worked fine in the racing industry a few decades when Clubs opened the gates and patrons poured in and the funds of most Clubs were in the positive. Today you have to be more transparent and open, sadly it seems a few involved in the administration of harness racing haven't moved with the times. Someone told me management in the HRNZ office still wear masks, that's probably one of their better moves
