  1. 'more old people'???? Well go back to my post above. The simpleton's in Winston's department(and the press and those flogging this tripe) are planning to eliminate those 'old people' and replace them with 18-44 year olds all keen as mustard to invest massively into racing. Well like most idiots they have an idealistic goal - but 18 -44 year olds tend to have mortgages or are saving deposits for houses(or soon will be) - they do not have the disposal income to spend on racing like the 'old people' do. In simple terms it would be nice but it ain't going to happen. They might turn up once or twice a year for a day out but that is for social purposes not to have huge days on the punt. So Witless Win and his cronies like you and Thomass are holding up track closures as one of the planks to restore NZ Racing to its former glory and all the while will alienate significant numbers of the current supporters in the vain(sorry for the pun Winnie) hope that 18-44 year olds will fill the gap? Fairyland stuff man. As most of the better informed people here (on the gaming front that is - certainly not me) note the issues are surrounding administration of the industry and the way the TAB is run(and what it costs). Shutting tracks when there is not one tiny bit of evidence that it will save money will not rescue NZ Racing but equally as I said above after Hesi's intro and the hue and cry resulting - you lot supporting this are great while it is someone else's facilities being dispensed with but not so keen when yours are suggested for the chop. The worst performing assets(from a purely economic perspective) in NZ Racing are the TAB(no question) and the incredibly valuable metropolitan racetrack properties.
  2. there are proportionately as many children in Reefton as there are in Auckland (in fact probably proportionately more given the exodus of young adults form rural areas). So that would make it worse from the ARC's point of view it is not flawed logic it is indisputable fact Idiot!
  3. Listen tosser Lets compare Reefton with Auckland. Reefton has maybe 3000 people within a 40km radius. Auckland would have 1.5m. At our last meeting we turned over $100k oncourse. Extrapolating that out Auckland would expect to turn over $50 million oncourse per day. Now you will come back and say to me that Auckland has a lot more racedays(and therefore less novelty value) so lets be fair and divide that expected turnover by say 25 days(I am being VERY generous there but anyway) - that brings it back to $2m expected per day. Now I know you are not the sharpest but I am sorry to say the ARC ain't turning over $2m per day nor anywhere near it. Auckland people do not go to the races bottom line. Like Winston you are out of your depth in any sensible conversation but unlike Winston you do not have the backing of the Waikato mafia so I would suggest you get back to watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and leave the rational discussion to those with something intelligent to contribute.
  4. Well if people in Auckland are not interested in their course and racing what reason is that to close(say) Reefton where the people clearly are? Is it the RJC's fault that the ARC has no empathy with its target audience? The first thing the committee wants to do is get out among them instead of getting up in the committee room with (no doubt) Chittick, Sir Peter Vela, Hogan and David Ellis all sucking on free booze and tucker. Shout one or two a beer (especially in the public areas) to rev them up a bit. And as one of the Race Cafers said to me last January 'there is a better range of alcohol here(at Reefton) than they provide at Ellerslie'. I know when I had a horse in the Karaka three year old race (a few years ago) all I could get in the owners area was champagne or Speights(with all due respect to a successful brand I would have expected alternatives to Speights from a can!) In order to try to enthuse those who are not interested you alienate those who are! Seems like an enormous punt to me. Dumb dumb dumb(but about what you would expect of politicians and idiots like NZTR and NZRB)
  5. yeah it is a problem all right But if Winston and Co have their way it will not be my problem. My services have been summarily dispensed with. Don't know why I ever wasted my time(and money of course).
  6. I always said the rules of economics would tell racing clubs when it was time to wave the white flag. When the trainers stopped nominating the writing would be on the wall. Mind you that would need a fair and proportionate income stream based on your turnover(rather than a fixed daily amount as is paid now)
  7. No they won't use(or should I say fill) the waterfront stadium Hesi bar two or three All Blacks tests per year or a major concert(but you could have Rod Stewart or someone at Ekatahuna and you would sell it out). And anyway twelve years ago Auckland had the waterfront stadium debate before the World Cup and they blew hundreds of millions on Eden Park(I cannot remember for sure but I bet there was NZ taxpayer money included) - now they are back looking at the waterfront? Reminds me of the millions spent on all these Big city racecourse over the last forty years and they too still have their hands out.
  8. See this is the hypocrisy of the Messara devotees They don't mind them shutting down the racecourse close to me but the minute you want to shut down one close to them ..... Ellerslie is like all the other big metro tracks - it gets a decent crowd about twice a year. for all the million and a half people they don't use the bloody thing(nor do they use Eden Park and nor will they use a waterfront stadium)
  9. stop talking common sense Hesi!
  10. None of that addresses the facts in my post you quoted. NZTR have had a major hand in the report(so that part is not the work of an Australian Racing Administrator) AND there has been no consultation or consideration in commencing the implementation of the track closing idea. I have run well out of enthusiasm for the game so do not care but I know this plan will not double stakes and I further know that it will not cure the issues of the NZ breeding industry(several of whom, along with their associates, are clearly pulling Winston's strings). Anyone who thinks it will is living in fairyland.
  11. cuckoo
  12. God you are a plonker Thomass How much consideration of submissions has there been when they have already started closing courses? You aren't witless Winston masquerading as Thomass are you? You talk enough drivel
  13. Did he though? From what I read he was pretty specific which ones should be shut. Having said that of course he didn't go to half them and when Bernard was down here a few weeks back he admitted NZTR had input into the report so I suspect my friend Campbell poked his oar in there somewhere.
  14. Well reread it because that is exactly what it says And remaining a Club administrator, volunteer, mug punter or owner will only encourage these imbeciles that their ideas were correct. I will be walking away and saving my money and time. The big Clubs will piss all the extra money up against the wall in the way they always have done you mark my words. And as far as the industry reaching a consensus well there is no consensus - the decisions have apparently been made and the Kumara decision is based on that fact that the Minister likes to get on the piss there(and indeed is booked to turn up there in January)
  15. clearly you are a Messara devotee In which case I would suggest you read the report again where he says it is impossible to close Aussie courses 'for political reason's' and in the case of the Irish his other example 'it is easier to close a hospital than a racecourse' Closing small racecourses is a bullshit idea (1) because the big flash metro tracks cannot handle the racing they have now and (2) they cost not a cent to run because it is all voluntary.
  16. Can you not sense when someone is taking the piss(particularly in regards the tracks)
  17. Quite correct We need to sell off the deadwood tracks that are sucking exorbitant amounts of industry funds Ellerslie Te Rapa Awapuni Trentham Riccarton Wingatui that would be down to 44 and all would quickly come right And while you are at it get rid of and replace a couple of deadwood organisations NZRB NZTR
  18. Well Messara and Winston have made it quite clear that the like of people with my profile(rural dwellers, small club administrator(and volunteer), mug punter, owns half a leg of three or four) are not required. Apparently 18 - 44 year olds are the saviour of the industry. So I hope those 18-44 year olds have got nice deep pockets to rescue the game (and the Waikato Breeders, Trainers, Journos and associated parties who worship the ground Messara and Winnie walk on) Otherwise I think 'significantly more sustainable net revenue' might be a pipedream.
  19. We may as well give a Honda away because people in the know tell me the new dates schedule(2019/20) doesn't include a meeting at Reefton. Nor Hokitika - Greymouth reprieved with one day and Kumara two. I think Bernard's visit six weeks or so ago might have saved Greymouth's bacon when he realised the true Kumara position
  20. not that it matters but it is a copy of the Gold coast Turf Club on Hollindale Cup Day - Kris Lees won one there in May
  21. two for a start(he will be able to list them) Beks(dam of Popsy) and The Governator. I think you are copping it from all sides so not much point in me continuing to debate but it strikes me you have a bit of superiority complex about the standard of Northern racing. I don't think anyone in Kiwi racing has too much to skite about on an international scale to be fair.
  22. And Pitty, in particular, is bloody good at taking North Island rejects up there to kick butt at times like the Wellington Cup Meeting. Patrick Erin came out of the South to win the Metropolitan. I am not noticing too many of these 'high class' Northerners being too competitive in Aussie these days
  23. I thought 'dwarf' referred to stature. Now I discover it is intellect.
  24. That why you ply your trade on BOAY? You are a bit like Thomass and need to get over to the other side. I bet you wouldn't make the same comment to a certain person over there. Anyway as a Winston supporter you will lack basic intelligence and common sense and I rather doubt, in light of your political inclinations, you could be too successful at anything so like Thomass and Winston you will be best ignored.
  25. At least it is coherent and logical. In your case it is utter piffle. Which is why the sensible people on here either ignore you or give you exactly what you deserve(ie a decent bollocking). The credibility of your friend Peters is not enhanced by the tripe you spew in his defence. Now notice that the grammar is pretty good, the spelling reasonably accurate and the message fairly clear. Perhaps instead of fanticising about Jacinda or some poor innocent young girl jockey you should take a course in effective english at which point you may well find people would become a little more interested in what you have have to say.
