  1. At the risk of repeating myself - a lot - I still like the UK rules in principle. Set a limit of whip strikes [ 5, 7, 9 - whatever ] and leave it to the riders to use when they see fit. Not some twat who has never ridden a horse. Easy for the riders to count, and equally easy to police.
  2. Might do indeed. Terry Kennedy has been working with horses from elsewhere for ages. We here at Riccarton are shoo-ed off the track at 10, leaves little opportunity to work with problem types.
  3. This one will be self limiting. The problem horses won't get barrier certificates and will therefore drop out of the system.
  4. Very interesting topic, well covered in an informative publication by Dr W. Robert Cook(e) Called The Airflow Factor. Dated but still relevant.
  5. I'm not taking sides...but I am quite able to decide for myself what to read, what to do, what to think. I don't need help.
  6. And yes to that as well.
  7. Agree up to a point... but where to draw the line? It affects all the other runners if several need more time spent, as well as running the whole day later and later, and there are serial offenders too. As well as a few sent back there were others that did load, albeit slowly, and didn't get a barrier certificate as a result.
  8. Well, I guess a cockup is feasible, shame, but human error is always a factor in matters involving, well, people.
  9. That's how I understand it also.
  10. Is this about the geo-blocking-that-isnt ?
  11. I can't recall ever seeing anything.
  12. Gee, so my adviser was not correct.
  13. Apparently that is the reason given for the hellish programming; the south island is considered 'one ' region hence the need to be away for 3 days to target a race that suits. The numbers ( so I'm told ) reflect exactly that.
  14. Yes, that's right enough unfortunately.
  15. A few patches not doing well but I don't see a horse safety issue with that. Most of it is very thick and looks good.
  16. No, it isn't. Canterbury/S.I racing generally seems much stronger than the C.D but there does seem to be a mission to squeeze out the south. If centralized to Riccarton/Ashburton management will be pleased, is the impression i get, but I really hope I'm badly wrong.
  17. In the weeks preceding....means not this week past but before that. I could see the sprinklers just pouring it on from my kitchen window. When the dogs and I went around last Sunday we got wet feet.
  18. Actually, so did I. I think I can recall McAnulty holding forth about it?
  19. There has been plenty of water applied in the weeks preceding.
  20. We've just been reading about them
  21. Yeah, Chief, but there isn't the clear difference in process from N.I to S.I that exists here.
