Stormy Morn has been mentioned recently, his owner Peter Moore recently passed away.
RIP Peter. Thoughts are with the family

Didn't know Peter but he had a great time racing Stormy Morn. RIP peter.

quite a cute story of rags to riches for his horse  !

Peter's father Jim Moore bred Stormy Morn and when Jim passed , a brother of Peter's named Stan received Stormy in the will.

Stan tried Stormy as a young horse with a trainer but he showed nothing  so Peter bought him off his brother for $150 as a riding Hack for his then 12 year old daughter Diane.

Stormy was too much of a 'handful' for the young lass  so Peter popped Stormy in training with Trevor Thomas . eventually qualifying and having just one 3 year old start. ( fin 3rd to About Now)

4 seasons later and after many wins with Trevor Thomas and successful Australian campaigns with Jimmy O'Sullivan winning an impressive 11 wins from 25 starts in Australia.

Stormy as a 7 year old made his way into the stable of Tony Perucich , a former Canterbury Trainer who had shifted to Pukekohe.  Tony and Stormy went on a Group 1 crusade and took victory that season in the Inter-Island Stakes, the Nz trotting FFA , the Dominion Handicap off 10m, The Rowe Cup off 15m and the New Zealand National trot as a cherry on top for the Big 5.

He had to race some of the great trotting names for his wins ,No Response, Jenner, Sir Castleton, Thriller Dee and Scotch Tar ( placed 2nd in Scotch Tar's dominion h'cap win)

I reckon Peter would of got a huge Thrill in February 1981 when Stormy Morn Won the the Australasian Trotting Championship in a track record at the famous Moonee Valley when Jimmy O'Sullivan steered him for a Big NZ First 4 placings beating the 2 previous Interdominion Trot Grand Final winners No Response (Richard Brosnan ) 2nd, Hano Direct (Doody Townley) 3rd and Kate's Return (Jack Carmichael) 4th ..   A very proud owner he would of been for Nz that day.....
