Freda Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Well....dont like to repeat myself but.....the bigger clubs have received preferential funding for years at the expense of the small ones....so why would any same person throw more money at them? 3 Quote

I am with you on this, bring on Messara. NZ Racing is 3rd world stuff and needs a mega shake up. It's now or never. Radical change is needed, it's going to upset plenty but the alternative is dire. This weekend will have sealed the fate and Messara will be auctioned. 1 Quote
hesi Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Yep, hard to understand why the Waikato Greenfields project is proposed for 2026, get on and do it now Sell Te Rapa, the track is a sand pit Sell Waipa, it's a dog of a track anyway Don't bother wasting money on a synthetic track at Cambridge, no facilities there anyway Use all the money to build a flash new facility, somewhere not too far from Hamilton, that functions as a conference center etc etc when not being used for racing Put in a Strathayr track Quote
Guest CrossCodes Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Sam Collett said after the first race the track was perfect and it's a credit to the club! Clearly she doesn't know much about racing on a safe and decent surface! Maybe she should just stick to the riding! Quote
Rowley Mile Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 No reason given on their homepage, what gives? How can the leading jock get it so wrong? 1 Quote
Guest CrossCodes Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 We all know that there will always be abandonments due to one hung or another (usually incompetence), but what gets me is the fact they are always abandoned after 1 or 2 races after the problems become evident. This is after all the trainers, horses, riders, track staff, caterers etc....have all turned up costing the clubs and the industry umpteen amount of dollars. In Australia when they do have meetings called off they have people competent enough to know beforehand whether the track is going to be suitable for racing on before everyone turns up. We clearly don't have stipes, track staff, management, even riders capable enough to being able to judge whether a track is safe to race on or not, so what hope is there? Quote

Freda Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 (edited) There was a mention somewhere about stipes being sent for retraining.. I may be mistaken but i am not aware of any facility for training stipes about soil/turf management or how to ride safely at speed. Perhaps a bit of gardening might help. Rowley Mile Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Here's a thought, as a punishment, all of us that have been effected/harmed by their incompetence are allowed to hit a selected 'suit' with a cow prod for 5 min, can anyone else think of a personal method of retribution? Quote
curious Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 I can think of a few RM. But back to Freda's point, what the stipes need in these instances is training in how to walk a track and make an accurate determination of its safety. Either that or they need to engage someone like Walshy to do that for them and advise. If they did that with him for a year or two, until they were competent to do so themselves, that might be the best form of said training. 1 Quote

curious Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 You've got to be joking. From the NZTR website on this. "NZTR are not looking to reschedule this meeting at this stage, but will consider options including adding a race or races to other programmes going forward including the possibility rescheduling the Te Awamutu Cup." Where do they come up with such language to apparently hide their incompetence in it? Why do people speak like this? The online Urban Dictionary offers two possible explanations: the first defines "going forward" as "a phrase that business people use to mean someone completely fucked up big time but we don't want to dwell on whose fault it was; instead can we all just adopt an optimistic outlook and please can we all start thinking about the future, not the shithole of a present that we're in?" The other, less scatalogical definition is: "Going forward is purported to mean 'in the future' or 'somewhere down the road' when in fact it is an attempt to dodge the use of these words, which generally indicate 'I don't know'. A newer development in corporate doublespeak, in most companies it is grounds for dismissal to release a press release without mentioning something 'going forward'. Going forward, you will likely see this turning up everywhere: 'Our company expects to make a profit going forward'; 'We don't expect any layoffs going forward'." 1 Quote

Not quite right Curious, 23 went around at Murtoa before it was abandoned after race 2 when a horse hurt itself after stepping in one. Edited October 7, 2018 by barryb 1 Quote
