Star Kiwi sprinter Imperatriz has to overcome six rivals to claim a seventh Group 1 win in the $2m Manikato Stakes (1200m) at The Valley on Saturday.

Imperatriz is chasing The Valley spring sprinting triple crown after wins in the McEwen and Moir Stakes in recent outings.

Imperatriz is one of two Group 1 winners in the race, along with Uncommon James while one of the 12 Everest runners Buenos Noches has made the trip to Melbourne to run in the weight-for-age feature.

The field also includes talented mare I Am Me, the winner of the Group 2 Missile Stakes and Group 3 Sydney Stakes this spring.

Only 7 starters .The Chief will have no trouble listing them in finishing order...after the 12 runners in the Everest, this will be a...breeze!😉

I take it you are not laying Imperatriz in the Manikato?

Or are you waiting until closer to the race?  Presumably to see which way the blades of grass are leaning.

I think the $1.50 is a good price. Have jumped in at that price.

I don't usually bother betting in that price range but on my assessment, I agree she is value at that price. If she does what I think she will, I imagine she'll scare even more off for the Chamions' Sprint though running for second or third behind her with even an outside chance of knocking her off may not be a bad option for some.

Yes devastating win.Roll on the Champions sprint at Flemington.

At the moment she's a Moonee Valley specialist.

Win the Champions and she will be a bona fide...champion.

Not many horses win 7 Grp 1's and are NOT called champions.  Let alone break track records while doing it.

14 Group wins so far.  Very few horses do that.

What horse are you talking about that has 7 group 1 wins?

Are you a newbie to Thoroughbred Racing?

Even a friend of mine who has only recently (last two months) taken an interest in racing knows that Imperatriz has 7 Grp 1 wins!

No not a.... newbie...just a bit out of touch with NZ form...her 2 wins prior to 2023  in NZ I didn't realise.

So 3 in Oz all at MV and 4 in NZ.
