Cambridge Synthetic trials cancelled.

103 entries in 15 trials at Avondale instead.

Congratulations NZTR for listening to trainers and not @TAB For Ever or Messara.

Meanwhile everyone is watching the grass grow at Ellerslie.

Very proactive lot at NZTR.

Add up those racing tomorrow in North plus the popular jumpouts on this week and one wonders where all the horses are heading !

I still am intrigued why such an infatuation with trials ,other than to show some zip for a good sale overseas.

Certainly more Yarns on here about the trials than any racechat !

LOL - really?  It took some phone calls from frustrated trainers not to mention a Topic started on BOAY to get them to work it out!  Remember the cancelled the Cambridge AWT trials and created the unscheduled Avondale trials only after being prompted.

I'm surprised you have learnt so little after your long involvement in the game owning many horses.  I guess you just attend for the social side of racing.

A trial invariably involves a trip away and race day like leadups and conditions.  That is it simulates a race day.  It brings horses on more quickly than any jumpout at home.  Many horses get bored with jumpouts.  Many horses with upcoming spring campaigns are trialling now.

Yep which just shows you what the average punter wants.  They'd rather watch some trials of spring contenders than a race meeting on a bog track.

Of course most of us on BOAY can remember the days when we had to take our horses to the trials to get form to gain a race start!

Still do, to get a ratings point and a better chance of gaining a run.

Still often necessary down here. Can't get rating points at jumpouts.

A trial is worth a dozen gallops. Every time you gallop a horse you risk serious injury. I used to go around with a bucket the night before a gallop in summer and pick rocks off the plough. For every one I found there were probably ten just under the surface. In winter there were holes everywhere on the number one grass. It was a narrow strip of grass that everyone who wanted to gallop their horse had to use. I don't think my experiences are unique.

Fair point...I used to dress up the plough before gallops with tractor and blades , break up the frost ..

Back in the day there were few trials until they used for qualifying purposes .

ShowGate  never attended a trial...maybe the Kurdistan's Mellays ,Gatekeepers etc just sturdier ,

How do you know she never had a trial?  Mind you in those days they had about 6 lead up races before they were fit.

In today's era, particularly in OZ, if you are not firing near top fitness first up or at worst second up then you'll have no chance of winning.  Then 6 starts in one campaign and you are spelling.

Get with the programme @TAB For Ever.

If you think anyone from NZTR actually looks at this site you're delusional.

Certainly not delusional.  But thanks for the drive by piece of negativity.

My point was that they are highly unlikely to look at any of these sites.

Trust you to construe it as an attack.

Really?  You said I was delusional.  I assure you the industry administrators look at these sites judging by the phone calls and other correspondence I've had.  You only have to trace a few IP addresses to know who is looking.  I'm sure you have the capability to do that.

Your phone must be red hot with all these calls you get from trainers and administrators.

Forgive me if "I assure you" engenders a minimal lack of confidence in what you're saying.

Showgate was a freak. In 1974 I witnessed her winning The Stewards (1200m) on the first day of the Cup meeting then an incredible win over 2,000m in the Canterbury Gold Cup on the second day and winning over 1600m in The Churchill Stakes on the last day. Jockeys didn't ride her, she carried them over the line.

I didn't say my phone was red hot.  You can interpret whatever I say anyway you want as you will.

But your initial assertion that Racing administrators don't review racing forums in NZ is incorrect.

I agree.  But in today's era the old methods won't work the same.

Surely it would be a bit sad if someone didn't?

Surely at least one of them has some interest in racing?

3 or 4 years ago I went to Wgtn Cup day and parked in the infield. When I crossed the track to get to the grandstand side I was amazed how rough the track was. We get quite a deceptive image on TV.

It's time I came out of the closet and admitted that I quite enjoy TAB's contributions. I think he provides a good balance to some of our prevailing views.

Totally agree.

I'm not sure though that these people are very interested in the views of the hoi polloi.

Don't worry, these sites are read all right.

Which makes it all the more disappointing that not one will condescend to come on and answer questions or at least put up a reasonable discourse.
