Why are they running jumps trials on August 29?

Except that probably well over half the horses that might want jump trials are in the CD.

That's a CD problem though.  Who is coordinating things in that region?  I noted a couple of trainers comment that they started at New Plymouth when they would have preferred a trial.

At least @Huey the horses at Ruakaka were there to race!!

I don't think anyone is co-ordinating much anywhere. Huey's point is valid though. There may be up and comer jumpers trialling in preparation for next season but given the uncertainties about that, I doubt there are many.

It is a good point by @Huey but I suspect he was being tongue in cheek.

Perhaps the trials are to school a few reluctant flat racers?

In my experience there certainly has been plenty in the past, true given the state of it all that may not be the case this season.

With 2 weeks of the season remaining?

I wondered about this too ,but I note there is a Te Aroha meeting down for 29 September with Open entry jumps races carded .

The most recent jumps fields seems to be better supported than those earlier in season.

The clear issue now is rider availability.... I see Rudy Leifting had to run his maiden against winners to get a rider and this in a 'ride this one and get the better ride too' deal. And double success for the UK jockey !

I'd have thought the question of the week is why do we have 2 x 3yo races (Colts & Fillies) for $40k at Taupo on Wednesday ? One has 5 starters & the other 7 starters.

Surely these fields could have been combined ?

Thanks. Sorry, I missed that meeting. Not in the programme book. It's hard to keep up with the date and programme changes. Question still applies though I think.

Plus 3 x 3yo going around in the 3 trials before the races.  I think it is an consequence of a lack of turf track trials leading up to these races.  As well as the weather...

It wouldn't be that hard to update the online programme book.  Do they?

I guess you still like a printed racebook in your hands when on course?

Yep, because they have birdcage times etc in them and I don't carry a phone when working around horses.

I had a horse eat the book once.  Didn't give me any winners.

I almost never bet oncourse anyway so, wouldn't bother me from that standpoint. Bets are long on before I get there.

So how do you get on when a race is delayed?  The book goes out the window...not that NZTR would update the birdcage times in real time.
