Brodie
Good to see that the general admission on Cup Day has been reduced this year from $40 to $25. $40 to get in is just too much for what they actually receive, so well done.
Shad
Totally agree, 40$ over the top, no way id pay that, was fortunate to have a galloper in the cup few years ago, glad I got free entry,.

I'm assuming you're referring to trotting cup day Brodie? With the Dominion now on Cup day it makes the day even more enticing. Having said that it will likely lessen the appeal of Show day. I'm all in favour of reducing entry charges but they need to be mindful of who they are actually enticing on track for the showpiece day. Will serious punters go or not go based on $15 reduction in entry charge? I was on track last cup day and it was impossible not to notice a significant increase in Police presence on the previous time I was there on Cup day. Later in the day there was an alcohol related incident in the infield. The media got hold of it but from what I could tell it was handbags at ten paces. Too much alcohol and too much sun can take a toll on some people

To be fair Westview we were not aware there even had been an incident. We were in the Members so I doubt the minor infraction ruined the day for anyone other than the knob jockey that was led off with new temporary bracelets on
Newmarket
Well, dropping from $40 to $25 will hardly make any difference to anyone actually interested in harness, although might get a few more drunk young ones there, here’s what has pissed me off in the last few years. 1-Alcohol, it’s bad enough paying big money for a simple beer, but after a few races they start selling you only 2 at a time, bloody hopeless if you’re in a group?? Does my head in…. 2-Food, pretty limited really in general areas, and bloody expensive. That’s why most have lunch or breakfast before arriving. 3-Seating, now the stand has gone very little seating is available? 4-Betting, usually I do betting on phone, but a few years back we had syndicate so had to bet with TAB. No bet slips anywhere, queue of many, We attended once in TAB area, from memory it was $100, got somewhere to bet and sit, that’s all ☹️ 5-Atmosphere, I used to love going but now in my late 50s it doesn’t have that buzz it once had, rather than horse followers excited about harness, others excited about music. 6-Parking, terrible. Either taxi or Uber, which adds to a very expensive day. All of the above put me off going to Addington over cup week, would rather go to Riccarton. As for paying $40 last year,it didnt really bother me,but i think it's cool that they've reduced the price for this year..not that i'm going this year.
