Pete Lane
Horses like him generate public interest so the promotion of them is good for the industry. I’d be pretty insulted if I owned one of the beaten brigade in that race and read that Huey essentially believes their horse is crap. News flash - they’re two year olds at the start of their career. Balmerino had a single start as a juvenile and only ran third - the rest is history. The second horse is pushing on to the Karaka Millions - that tells me it may be better than our resident belittler thinks.

Don't play a game of tautology. The inference is it beat nothing therefore you are belittling its performance. I've just answered the question regarding how it is good for NZ breeding. If a NZ colt can't beat or even get near an OZ bred colt at Pukekohe then it isn't the best of the breed is it? Take the OZ bred out and you have a NZ colt with black type. You'd like that wouldn't you? So I guess you have changed your view now about the Karaka Sweepstake races and the new Ellerslie sweepstake and slot races? Afterall the two best fillies racing in NZ are not eligible for them. I suppose that can be blamed on the Waikato mafia?

The winner isn't eligible for the KM. I'm guessing @Huey likes that. Now if the OZ bred gets black type across the ditch doesn't that raise the value of the second placed filly? The irony of course which escapes @Huey is the second horse was Ozzie bred too except it just happened to be sold at Karaka.
Chief Stipe
Not to mention of course that the top NZ colt, a NZ bred, is sidestepping the big NZ Sweepstake and Slot races and aiming for an Ozzie Grp 1. Trained of course by an ex-Te Akau trainer who is doing very well in her own right.

Looking forward to seeing it go around in the Magic Millions and I hope it gives them windburn and bolts in , I'll be the first to congratulate them. No , no it doesn't raise the value of the 2nd placed filly, of course I know its Aus bred certainly not by an elite Sire (yet).

Horses like him don't create interest until they get to their level, they do however create hype and delusion all integral parts of the machine behind it. That horse certainly hasn't been over hyped & its reached elite level, I hope it performs very well in Aus i'll be 100% behind it doing so. TA trainer , you like to draw a long bow.
