curious
For the first time in years, I've started watching a bit of live trackside in recent weeks. I notice that pre-race, they seem to get commentator selections for each race and even list those onscreen. I'm not clear yet whether those are the announcer's assessment of the best winning chances in order (usually 4), or their assessment of the best betting propositions. Probably not the latter because they sometimes comment that the price has changed markedly. Have they always done that and do they do that in other jurisdictions? I've never heard it here or elsewhere when on course or on replays. So, what is the purpose of it? Wouldn't you expect the race announcer to take a neutral position? Are they allowed to bet? Chief Stipe
Isn't that one of the reasons Tony Lee was let go? He refused to do selections in the way you described.
Newmarket
I have a laff with their selections, once all the presenters were n course state their tips…. then you get presenters in studio to give theirs too…. really a total waste of time for mine. Another thing that is pointless, when a winning rider comes back to scale, they play a little video of the jockey….only thing is, by the time it’s finished the jockey is rushing to weigh in…. so his comments rushed🫣 And while I’m at it, how many times can you not see a slo motion replay because a graphic pops up with PHOTO…. but you can’t see horses nose to line up…. frustrating

R5 at Wanganui is an excellent example. Sweeney and Evans waxed lyrical about how great a winning chance Scelta Di Elena was and how they were surprised it was at $4. They kept pushing that train of thought then congratulated themselves on 'talking' it into fav at $3.30. Ran 3rd, mutter and mumble, move on. My advise is judge with your own eyes and with the mute ON

Newmarket Posted yesterday at 03:36 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:36 AM Well, watching Trackside Premier since 4pm, when it started on TV. It’s been 30 mins of BS, and now 4mins before first race they interview Tony Pike. Wow, I want to hear from trainers and Jocks… Had Emily go thru every horse in birdcage while reading horses details from book….. then BP reads horses form from book…. then woman tells us how good the horse looks, that’s 30 mins gone🤣 Highlight Chris Gayle’s attire so far…
