Newmarket
You know what, yes I’m having a moan because this cost me money…. WTF was Wiremu Pinn doing on this horse….3 nags missed the start, one ran off. WRTH settles just behind leaders in great spot… was counting my dough with the $6.50 I got fixed odds…closed at $3-70… But, turns to crap. The 3 slow runners made ground, instead of moving off rail Pinn thought he would stay on rails… but then in straight thought there’s a heap of runners in the centre of track… let’s try my luck….. winner gone before running 3rd. Ironically if he had gone inside, could have driven a kenworth truck through. Yep, as I say, is my money talking, luckily bet EW, but it’s hard being a punter knowing that their selection picking was spot on, but the muppet on horse would rather be unlucky. If I had that horse, wouldn’t ride again
Wingman
Probably in three minds, want to do this or that but worried about the stipes smashing him if he does this or that
barryb
I am with you on this Newmarket. Massive gap on the inside & he doesn’t go there, what’s bloody worse is there is no stripes questioning of the ride. Was a shocker of a ride & he doesn’t get questioned, really?.
Chief Stipe
2 hours ago, Wingman said: Probably in three minds, want to do this or that but worried about the stipes smashing him if he does this or that Since when do the gallops Stipes smash anyone on the choices the make? Hell when are they going to give them a lecture about having a decent pace in a race? In the Railway they ran the first half of the race five seconds slower than the second half. Wingman
My reference to 'smashing' was focusing on the individual jockey in question who gets little slack from the stipes
curious
I beg to differ and I backed Rox @$7. The gap was there (just) when he made the decision about the 400. Kennedy then shifted out slightly making the gap impassable. On that track especially, it is also easier to keep the horse balanced easing out than cutting back in on the turn. Had he then cut back to the inside, he would have lost too much balance and momentum to win imo. 1
curious
If the gap had gone the other way and opened a fraction, the horse was bolting and it was all over rover. Everyone would be saying what a brilliant ride. Edited 5 hours ago by curious
barryb
Go back & watch the race video till the end Curious, it shows head on & there is at least a 5 mtr gap on the inside for 400 mtrs.
Freda
Haven't looked and won't comment on this - but lack of ability to read a race is sadly very prevalent in judicial rooms. Jockeys used to get pulled up for poor decisions, i recall Bruce Craik ( stipe) taking all the riders in the room bar the winner and and giving them a ticking off for stupidity. Doesn't happen now - although a couple of years ago, our head stipe did tell a jumps rider he should have let the reins go.

Look, I know punting is never easy, it’s gambling and anything can happen, as I backed it EW I only lost small amount …. but it peeved me off so much I didn’t have another bet at TAB / Betcha all day in protest. Used Sportsbet n Aus racing and even NBA…. but below are a few points. 1, WP chose to get pocketed around 600m from home. He had every option to track up on the outside, chose to go inside as horse that missed start took that place. 2, That resulted WP in tight racing room turning for home, had plenty of time to react, not a big field and while runners were racing together tight, it was very compact, 3 odd metres inside or wider and he would have had a clear run to line. They interviewed him after winning on hotpot…. was asked about being 3 wide in small field, he said he should have gone around earlier, sadly never mentioned first race. Stipes should have asked question, as didn’t give horse every chance to win
