pete
Common sense finally? Could be enough to drag me back to Ellerslie. They ruined the infield with all this stupidity. It used to be a wonderful day out.

I remember being at Te Rapa and still sitting in a tent we had at the Cambridge Nov meeting when it was 8:30pm and near dark, everyone long gone home. Had to climb over the fence as the place was locked to get a taxi. hahaha 1

I presume that would mean picnics and boot parties would also come back and that infield might actually look like an array of people enjoying themself. Nothing better to attract people, than to see it all happening
Newmarket
Makes sense. Had a few mates driving from Dunedin to CHCH today. About 10 of them, 2 of them are punters, but the rest dont. I told them to stop in at Timaru races on way up, which they did. Only arrived for last 3 races, but were told it was still $10 entry each?? They didnt care, just went to pub, didnt have a bet. Crazy that clubs still charge entry fee so late in the day, they should be trying to entice anyone
barryb
Read the comments section of that article fellas, there seriously are some complete wankers in this country. The problem is the number of complete wankers is rising.
Dark Beau
At least it was probably about 60/40 for it. There are idiots everywhere these days. Why there are so many I don’t know, but I will give you my opinion on possibly why! I put it down to the huge number of younger people with a warped university education. The academics have a lot to apologise for!
barryb
Yes DB I think there is a lot of truth to that, educators are often today thinkers along those lines displayed by the 40% you mention.
curious
Thanks guys. You may be falling into the same trap as Thomass by applying a population statistic to individuals. As an academic and educator, I'm not sure I fit your generalisation.

Sorry mate, with Thomass awol someone had to do it. I was laughing as I typed that knowing it would spark you. I am on a school board so I know how thankless and difficult an educators job is at times, the issue in NZ is the rising poor parenting skills. There’s the parents who live vicariously through there kids and the parents who have them as an income source, the moderates in between have been dwindling in number. Crazy that clubs still charge entry fee so late in the day, they should be trying to entice anyone Trentham did the same things to me about four years ago, there were about 4 or 5 families heading in with two races to go and they insisted on charging the full gate entry. The others all turned around and walked off, we paid the entry fee but haven’t been back since. I much prefer Hawera Otaki and New Plymouth. Kihikihi Kid
Sorry to disappoint everybody but at the end of the day , this is just a trough feeding politician wanking off at the expense of the Racing Industry, paying homage to the club that fed and watered him all day alongside that feral ferret Judith Collins. C'mon really , Ellerslie jumped on the bandwagon first to bar BYO as they blantently tell all that they get more profit from selling a shit lion Red as opposed to any single $10 bet. Fair enough , but believe me , this bill won't go through , Chris Bishop ffs , smeg would be his job description

Given Winston’s previous comments on the situation and where a fair proportion of his votes come from its hard to see him opposing it. Turny
This Bill has a very long way to go until ticked off - the Police will be the key not Winnie - racing can expect no favours over any other entertainment - sad but true IMO - it ain't a home run that's for sure At Riccarton Cup Day 3 years ago had my sugar and tea cannisters confiscated from my picnic set because they were glass - haven't been back since and never will - that's your starting point Edited December 29, 2018 by Turny
