re: greyhounds

They shut the greyhounds down once 2016 in NSW for a time, but then the government shortly after overturned the decision as 2000 people would of lost their livelihood. so they made welfare changes in the industry  and away they went again. NZ should do that. 😊

Can't see the government overturing the decision here.

Brodie, you are on the money! This is more egregious than the treatment of restricted punters.

The thing is that I feel that the greyhound industry has not protested hard enough.

Someone needed to take the bull by the horns and led the participants to actually fight for their industry!

I reckon too many are just accepting of what they are told to do, apathy is rife in NZ it was shown during the Covid scam.

Defies total logic when they say that greyhounds who chase without being forced to is cruel?

What is more cruel is that this decision to cancel dog racing is going to make the greyhound extinct in NZ  within a few years!

This is cruel and yet the greyhound people continue to race without significant protest?

Once the industry is closed it is gone forever so they need to fight their cause!

yes it is hard to imagine someone sitting there thinking , I'll go to that stallion with my mare next year to get a foal that can race in a -$5k service fee race. Sires Stakes racing much better.

On breeding , 3 of my All time favourites for Ability ( Tiger Tara, Lazarus and Leap To Fame ) all by Bettors D, looked a chance of being the 'next Generation' Stallions . BUT....

the Tiger Tara's are doing nothing , so he stands for just $3,500 now . Lazarus showing at $5000 fee I think , might change this year. Opinion is devided  ? some say ok , some say underperforming ?'.

so doubt I would rush off to 'Leap To Fame' when he retires without considering other options for my mare.  It's a fickle game the breeding.😁

anyone said to you anything TABman ? about the Lazarus stock ?

Gamma , there is talk that the Lazarus progeny need a bit of time ...ie they will flourish at 3,4 and 5...maybe wishful thinking .

I'm not sure how many sires are $5k or less but there are a few getting results with limited opportunities.

Most breeders are going for the commercially popular sires which attract the higher prices at yearling sales.

I note the popular sire Always B Miki is not travelling down this year cos of injury. That leaves a gap 1

Sky Major and Vincent are two value propositions along with the likes of LatherUp ,Ultimate Machete, Terror To Love ,BlingIt On.McWicked ,Locherburn,For A Reason .

In the trotters there are Regal Inspiration ,Speeding Spur ,Majestic Son ,Imperial Count ,Creatine , Marcoola , Habiti Inta ,OneOver Da Moon.

And more may now drop below that $5000 limit.

Breeding seems so hard now ...an expensive hobby indeed and the farmers who had the pastures to raise em have sold out and/or getting too old to bother now.
