I'm all for promoting young people in the industry, there's no growth without them.

I can see where others are coming from though when more than a few of the winners are employed by NZTR or sponsors of the event.

The womans winner in particular is absolute laughable!

Exactly. Some worthy winners of course but the whole thing smacks of nepotism. Folks will not support people and organisations whose main aim in life is feathering their own nests. Is it really necessary for the expense of glitz and glamour.

(as mentioned) Look at MLB, every game the public picks the player of the game.. and mass import into who picks the players for the All Star game, similar for NFL....

The're all laughable, reminds me of a sideshow announcer at the Fair yodeling into a loudspeaker... "every player wins a prize" FFS !

Herb gave up training when Sam was about 4 years old.  I guess training racehorses at such a young age wasn't a health and safety issue back in the '90's.

I gather his other grandfather was a trainer as well.  But don't let your cynicism consume you.
