I think you'll find that the net funding from owners is more than the net revenue from punters.

The 2 are different

The shop owner pays for a shop or chain of shops to be set up, including outfitting, stock, systems, marketing, facilities, cleaning security.  They are paying for a set up as part of an industry, the retail industry.

They then must have customers to buy that stock or they go bust

Ok not worried about the price eh?  Boy do I have a deal for you.  2 turrets or 4?

Well at least not the entry, wouldn't be keen on replacing if I broke it ... you know if it didn't have enough air in it.

So do we consider that Owners are Manufacturers who provide the product at a loss?  That is your customer doesn't pay enough for the product.

Sometimes the customer doesn't know what they want.  If you listen to all the moaners online that say they are punters all they want is free bets.

So do you think retailers just discount for the hell of it? Hardly, they do it to compete with competition.
No doubt your remark regarding free bets was pointed at me, of course free bets or match deposits work, do your homework and look at every Aus operator, they need to compete.

TAB used to do more…. but of course now between them and Betcha, they have a monopoly…. but they are losing customers and turnover…. desperate times which is now why they are offering special odds for those betting on machines🤣🤣. …. that tells you that they have no idea to increase turnover with on line punters….

Not exactly. They certainly provide it at a large financial loss for a shot at whatever prize money the customers (punters) provide and whatever other benefits they consider they gain from their participation.

Don't be so sensitive my comment wasn't directed at you but all those moaning about ENTAIN in general.

Retailers often discount and they have loss leaders amongst their product range e.g. Costco with that beautiful Westland butter WestGold.

BUT from what I see wagering agencies free-load off the generosity of owners who provide the product at a considerable discount.

As evident from the comments of many punters online they don't give a rats arse about where or what they spend their money on as long as they get a perceived discount.  The reality is most discounts you do get aren't really discounts but that's another subject.

But you have no real idea what is happening with their customer base.  From what information I've seen it is increasing.

As for turnover the key figure isn't turnover but net revenue.

The issue is trying to get a fair return for the product hence the attempts to create the monopoly or rather stop leakage and get a return on the locally made product.  Don't forget when NZ racing was supposedly at its best it did have a complete monopoly.

So as an owner why can't I expect a fair price for my product?

When NZ Tab had a monopoly, it wasnt as easy to open accounts or place bets overseas, i do all of my betting on iphone, so i have only had data for about 10 or so yrs, before that i rung tab.

I think turnover is a fairly key figure.  Most can simply reflect on what the day's turnover is/was, and aren't clubs paid a percentage of the oncourse turnover?

The key figure is net returns as that is what is returned to the industry to fund capital and stakes.

I haven't been to a TAB for a while until recently.  If you think what they are now providing is progress, good on you.  It all is a turn off, especially if you are in a hurry.

Most of the old folk I've asked specific questions to about the changes all agree that it is an improvement.  If you are in a hurry then use the app on your phone.  The new pod machines are very good.

From one old person to another, I could see a definite drop in live customers in the TAB area.  With no sheets on the board, only screens, I could visualise congestion at busy times i.e. Melbourne Cup day.  I hope provision is in place for early betting on the Melbourne Cup, and extra easy bet options so as to no allienate the once a year punters.  It's a pretty big turnover day.

Yes, we know this but, I can't be dismissive of the turnover figure as a tracking tool and % return to clubs.

With the new appointments at NZTR the betting focus has certainly intensified.  Charlotte Mills is an interesting one.  She must be extremely good at her job to be consulting for just the 12-month term and be allowed to remain based in WA.

Most of these "old people" are using the TAB app on their smart phones in between video calling their grandchildren.  Thats why you dont see as many lingering at the pod or the increasingly irrelevant manned terminal.  Get with the programme.

As for Melbourne Cup Day the promotions are aimed at getting customers to sign up online.

Printing of fields was an extreme waste of trees and expensive.  At pub agencies the printing costs were paid for by the pub!!!

As for betting on the Melbourne Cup you can bet on futures and on fixed odds up at least the day before.

I submit.  I am obviously not in the "old" category but, the "ancient" one.

I could see signing up to a TAB site attached to your credit card or bank account being a real turn off to a young person looking to secure a mortgage any time soon.  Banks frown upon a weekly takeaway purchase.

FFS.  To what?  Working person?  Working or non-working ... ?

Often becoming Club

Former Workingmens in Christchurch include

Papanui Club

Hornby Club

New Brighton Club

Woolston Club

Which exceeds the 3 already. Hence the question.
