curious
Did here Kakama. DEVELOPING STORY: Darren Weir stables raided by Victorian Police Darren Weir Photo: Darryl Sherer Article Author Brad Waters 30 January 2019 Detectives from Victoria Police’s sports integrity unit have raided the Ballarat and Warrnambool operations of the state’s premier trainer Darren Weir on Wednesday morning. Rumours of an investigation into the Weir stable have been circulating around racing for months before the police hit the Weir stables. Police have confirmed they have arrested Weir and two other men and taken in for questioning. "They will now be interviewed in relation to sporting integrity matters, including obtain financial advantage by deception, engaging in conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome of event or event contingency, use of corrupt information for betting purposes and attempt to commit indictable finanical offence, namely obtain financial advantage by deception," a Victoria Police statement read. "A number of items, including a firearm and what is believed to be a conducted engery device were also seized from the properties. "This investigation remains ongoing and has also been assisted by Racing Victoria." Weir’s stable sent out a Commonwealth record of 491 winners and won more than $31 million in prizemoney last season. Racing Victoria has released a statement on the matter. Almost all media organisations have named Weir but RV’s general manager of integrity Jamie Stier says the organisation was not prepared to name the trainer involved. “Racing Victoria’s Integrity Services team has been conducting an investigation into the activities of licensed persons in the Warrnambool and Ballarat areas. During the course of our investigation we sought the support of Victoria Police’s Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit on the matter, instigating their investigation,” Stier said. “The Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit this morning executed warrants at properties in Warrnambool and Ballarat where they arrested three licensed persons for questioning. SLB2.0
You can't trust anyone in racing in Australia - especially a big player like Weir. He doesn't go from 0 to hero without "help" along the way.

As he has been charged and fined on several previous occasions, where there is smoke, there is fire...too many unanswered questions over the years.... Lets hope that it can be cleaned up and finalised asap...because to let it linger in the mainstream public domain can only be bad for the industry... but since Police are involved, they must have had their ducks in a row.? The Centaur
Having a firearm in a large stable would not be unusual for obvious reasons. Seems to be a publicity hit job.
SLB2.0
Depends. We used to have a shotgun for pests etc, but if it's a pistol and it's there illegally, then you have problems.

MaltedMilkshake
It’s just a bit of a laugh isn’t it...? Whilst I take the long view on JM and his agenda, I do think he had good intentions when doing the job for WP. However remember....he is in the NSW camp and at the moment there is a massive “mines bigger than yours” contest happening with Victoria, so in private, I don’t he will be crying. But surprisingly, the tote turnover in Vic hasn’t overly suffered since the Aquanita scandal....So you can look at it either way...caught the cheats or why did it take so long? Freda
I'm told that turnover has plummeted 27 % since the racefixing biso became public knowledge...which of course hurts all of us, not just harness racing.

Trial by media is almost as bad as conviction without trial. Let's all just stop speculating on things (eg the nature of the firearm and its reasons for being there) and let the judicial process take its course.

If Mr Weir and Co are released without charge, or if charged are found not guilty, do you think he/they might want to sue you for defamation? Police have released Melbourne Cup-winning horse trainer Darren Weir and two other men without charge as they investigate allegations relating to the corruption of betting results and animal cruelty. Key points: Darren Weir is widely regarded as Australia's leading horse trainer Police arrested him and raided his properties as part of an investigation into racing integrity They say they also found electric-shock devices, which may have been used on horses Victoria Police raided properties owned by Weir in Warrnambool and near Ballarat, and arrested Weir, 48, and two other men aged 26 and 38. Assistant Commissioner Neil Paterson said the raids formed part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome. The investigation has been underway since August. Officers searched Weir's high-tech training facility at Miners Rest and his beach stable in Warrnambool, as well as a property at Yangery just outside Warrnambool. Fred
If you have 600 horses you have a minimum staff of 200 --you might find all sorts of stuff in an Aussie mob that size. Perhaps not a brain ....

I've just googled Weir, you try it Mr Weasel, last fine 15k!......he's been done for needles, tubes, you name it.......I don't know the outcome of this arrest, but by as hell he has a track record better than Ronnie Biggs........convicted Weasel and one of the heaviest fines on record. You can't defend him, he's dead set a lucky bugger, I loved the grin and waving to the press though, classic.

Rowley Mile
Hey mate, if your caught cheating and punished, you're a cheat, get it? ......That's what he is guilty of, = being a cheat, this episode is just another chapter in the book of Weir, or weird, whatever..... Weasel
He's been caught cheating today, has he? Really? Hmm..arrested, interviewed, released...could be re-arrested in future I guess BUT until he is tried and convicted of woteva he is NOT GUILTY. You may be right. You may be wrong. Don't jump to conclusions based on trial by media.
