Well that doesn't mean much given you don't rate anything about NZ Racing. I'm surprised you haven't mentioned that Well Written is actually pinhooked out of an OZ sale. Quote

I gather you have returned from your Christmas/New Year pensioners bus trip and intend to continue 2026 as you left off 2025. You really don't have any original ideas do you? The 100 years of Sales in New Zealand must bring back memories for you. Trentham would have been the last time you bought a yearling. Quote

None of whom seem able to act collectively to focus on the key issues - tracks, programming and handicapping. The trouble is, they make a lot of noise, and they try 50 times harder than the average racing person that posts on social media, so they give the false impression of the industry. Look at Wightman, he is absolutely convinced that he speaks for most of the industry and that most of the industry is behind him. Trouble is he persists with this rhetoric ad nauseum and many just let him run freely at the mouth because he simply overpowers them. Quote

Rewatching the race, it was rather impressive, the way she let down up the straight! After the KIWI it will be interesting to see what the think is her best option? A nice 2000m G1 over the ditch? hesi Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) According to our expert on the Thoroughbred Facebook site, Birdcage Bill, it will be the Doncaster over 1600m. He can be a pain, but seems very knowledgeable. Well Written's 6th dam is Jocasta, a speedy Pakistan 11 filly. I doubt they would try her over more than 1600m Edited 16 hours ago by hesi Quote

The Doncaster makes much more sense though taking on the older horses in a handicap? $4m cf the Vinery at a questionable distance for 500k. No brainer? Edited 8 hours ago by curious 1 Quote
hesi Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Here is a point to ponder 3 or our best 3-year-olds in the last 2 years, Leica Lucy, Willydoit and Molly Bloom, all showed themselves to be well superior to the opposition, an ability to show good acceleration and easily put distance on rivals, much the same as Well Written. The spin machine on all 3 went into overdrive as it usually does with a horse that puts up good performances in NZ, the superlatives flowing All 3 were sold or part sold to Aus buyers with bottomless pockets. Between the 3 of them, they are yet to win a single race in Aus, Leica lucy being the best performed with some nice placings at G1 level Just putting things in perspective, based on recent experiences Edited 2 hours ago by hesi Quote

Arguably they went one or two races too far before being asked to adapt to OZ racing. As I said earlier my theory is that the way NZ races are run now - sit and sprint - our horses are less able to adapt. Quote
