Basil
It would certainly explain why the TAB is reluctant to engage with him!? The Gambler Who Cracked the Horse-Racing Code Bill Benter did the impossible: He wrote an algorithm that couldn’t lose at the track. Close to a billion dollars later, he tells his story for the first time. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2018-05-03/the-gambler-who-cracked-the-horse-racing-code
Brodie
Basil, very interesting story! Benter isn’t Brodie and doubt anyone would be able to be that successful with Australasian Gallops. Certainly wouldnt with harness as you would get chopped till it wasn’t worth investing just like they do in Britain!
Happy Sunrise
Great read. That is inspiring stuff. Should be made into a movie. The Hong Kong gamblers, not Brodie....?
Happy Sunrise
The following year the Hong Kong Jockey Club phoned Benter at an office he’d established in Happy Valley. He winced, remembering the meaty hand of the Las Vegas pit boss on his shoulder. But instead of threatening him, a Jockey Club salesperson said, “You are one of our best customers. What can we do to help you?” The club wasn’t a casino trying to root out gamblers who regularly beat the house; its incentive was to maximize betting activity so more revenue was available for Hong Kong charities and the government. Now that is a good attitude.

Now that is a good attitude. Yes but they closed him off for a while so he had to resort to getting form fillers rather than using a direct computer connection. Hong Kong relented some years afterwards and made the computer feed connection open to all. When it was open to all Benter's profits dropped but his algorithm still worked better than the others. Only after he won an enormous amount of money! Not $400 dollars off race 2 at Winton lol

Those punters could have bought 166 000 Happy Sunrises' with their winnings from that single season. I am suitably impressed.
Richie
What a horse Happy Sunrise was.I was at that sale and was one of a few bargain buys.New somebody that was bidding on it. Although mainly unfashionable bred horses there were a few that performed ok from that sale A mate bought one for few hundred that won 4 races.
