Chief Stipe
I thought Taupo was a great track? Why did the track become a problem after four races?
Mardy
I never saw any races from Taupo. But i did read that a horse slipped at around the 700m mark in the 4th.
curious
Might have been a problem in the first by the look of the video and stipes report. Two struggled to make the bend in the first at the same spot as the slip in the 4th. Probably shouldn't have run that one by the look of it but they keep sending the crash test dummies around until there is or threatens to be a serious accident. Race 1 MATAMATA VETERINARY SERVICES MDN 1300 O’PRISTINE (C Grylls) – Made the bend awkwardly near the 800 metres. Held up until near the 150 metres. DAMESEL (D Johnson) – Made the bend awkwardly near the 800 metres and shifted out hampering EQUATE. All The Aces
Is there a problem with the 800m area at Taupo? Yesterday's stipe report Following the running of this race a track inspection was carried out by Stipendiary Stewards, trainers, riders and Club representatives after it was reported that JAKAMA JILL had lost its footing making the bend near the 800 metres, with the decision being made to abandon the meeting due to safety concerns. Three races abandoned in April 2017 stipe report After the race a number of riders expressed concern reporting that their mounts had lost their footing going into the bend near the 800 metres. After meeting with all riders an Inspection Committee undertook a track inspection of the area of concern finding a number of slip marks being apparent with the remainder of the meeting being abandoned at 1.50 pm due to unsafe track conditions. Both meetings showery with slow 7 rated tracks.
Chief Stipe
It would appear so. Add's validity to the argument that you can't keep hammering the same tracks over and over.

Plus 6 or 7 trial meetings with anywhere between 12 and 22+ trials. Over 150 horses went round at the trials in July. With the proposed rationalisation of tracks that will only get worse.

I guess you are being facetious! ? However did you read the article about fatality rates at Churchill Downs? Seems there is a correlation between bad weather and racehorse injury on their "all weather track"!

Still hardly excessive by any means.

It is for New Zealand tracks that haven't been properly maintained. Many of the trials are 850m - starting gates, pounding horses - neither help the ground. Anyway you provided some proof that there is something wrong with the track. I'm just listing the obvious causes.

Some of these trial meetings have a large number of heats, June trials over 20 heats as an example. I think there are a number of trainers who take horses there to gallop also arent there? A club that looks like it run entirely on volunteers so I do feel for them this happening.
