Chief Stipe
Star Melbourne jockey Damian Lane will ride boom New Zealand three-year-old Catalyst in his upcoming Australian campaign. Catalyst is raced by Dick Karreman’s Oaks Stud with general manager Rick Williams confirming Lane would replace kiwi Troy Harris in the Group Three C S Hayes (1400m) at Flemington on February 15. “Damian Lane’s manager emailed and said Damian wouldn’t take another ride until he knew what the riding engagements were going to be,” Williams told NZ Racing Desk. Lane ended up being a poor choice who would no doubt jump off if offered a better ride in future. When you sack a winning jockey (who knows and has helped make the horse) you deserve to get beat, although it probably wouldn't have gone much better with Harris aboard anyway. The great Vo Rogue was always ridden by a bush jockey who couldn't get a ride at a Metropolitan meeting. Full credit to the connections for sticking with that jockey. Troy Harris is one of our best riders who could've been better than his father if a lighter weight, but the imbeciles here who've bagged him wouldn't know that !
All The Aces
Perhaps you would like to tell us how the hell Troy would be able to ride the horse. Couldn't make 57kgs at Te Rapa and is currently out with an injured shoulder until next month.
billy connolly
Poetic justice.... Hall of Famer W.J. (Bill) Broughton was sacked from 1957 pre post Wellington Cup favourite Cardigan (owned by the reigning Governor General Sir Willoughby Norrie) in favour of top Australian hoop Neville Sellwood, but Broughton had the last laugh receiving a late call to ride Sombrero which got up to beat Cardigan in the last stride.
