Karrots
Great topic Hunter. I like the Country Cups. Keep an eye on the points board, as I do with the Jewels. I have not followed what is happening with this years Country Cups in North? Will they still have them and just run at Mana? And points still go toward prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd ... ?

Westport .reefton will be interesting if people will travel could be small cup fields I think in recent years Westports main races have been small, probably due to the large numbers of races in Canterbury, country cups in the north,I see they are running a wellington cup at one of the 2 days at new year, why dont those harness clubs run a summer circuit with mini meetings in the cd at the gallop meetings like at new year,if it can happen then then why not more of it?
Shad
Numbers have been light in the races mentioned, last couple years, just doesn't seem to be the horses around for that grade, stakes been quite good I thought.
Karrots
Speaking of Country Cups, just the other day I recall reading a post by Mikie that he had won 2 Country Cup Finals. I think the same of Hunter, winning a Country Cup or 2. I have friends of friends that have. I wonder how many others on this site also have or have an connection to it. Probably lots. Westport cup is a rating 55,a day after Westport day 2 Motukarara have a xmas cup rating 55,is that good scheduling, in between Nelson and Blenhiem in January there is a midweek meeting at Ashburton,is that good scheduling, are trainers gunna travel?Forbury fields tomorrow are very small, following 3 days straight in Canterbury and week after week in Southland of same old same old with Winton following on Saturday,is that a good calandar, not hard to see why Forbury lose out. In the north CD area lots of gallops meetings through summer time where dual meetings would probably be perfect,New Plymouth,December, then there is Hastings,Wanganui in Jan,gee a couple of years ago some of these gallop meetings over xmas had hardly any horses,at a time when people do go to the races,be interesting to see how numbers stack up this time round. Am I correct that the reason I heard why no trots last year at Wairarapa at new year was because it would have affected Cambridge numbers? However did not want to allege anything. That was what I read re 2 ATC. With my friends of friends, I heard the story how the leading lady owner would go get her hair done and dress up, incase her horse won the country cup. The horse ended up being crowned King of the Country Cups of the North. What an achievement for them. Super exciting. Shows how much these things mean to people. I hope the Country Cups continues and the series stays alive, even if it is not for this season. My favourite races to watch are the Groups, followed by Country Cups. Will have to be a wait for the 1st 2 y-o race as it will not be run this Fri. Feel free anyone to share your Country Cup story ...
