Big trouble.he did not want to win.you decide but my opinion is he did not want to win.
LIAISON - an Information was lodged charging Driver Z Butcher under Rule 868(3) on the grounds that he failed to drive his horse out to the end of the race when he had a reasonable chance of running first. Mr Butcher entered a not guilty plea and the matter was adjourned sine die.

He only got beat a Nose. after death seating. some are being harsh forbs

What is an 'Information Lodged charge'???  is that some sort of objection?

Butcher Probably thought he had the leader covered, but 'Free as Air' kept kicking to JUST hold on.

If he did not 'WANT' to win it , he could of stayed 4 back on the fence where he was early in the race, AND then would of been NO HOPE , but instead he pulled into the death seat and was tackling leader from the quarter.

Often the driver on a trotter seems much 'Stiller in the gig' than they do on a pacer in the home straight, when going Flat Out. a balance thing.

**Take a look at Ben Hope on EASY PICKINGS two weeks ago when a head 2nd to SMokin Bander at Addington in race 8 on March 5th. I was surprised to see him sitting quite still up the running , after cosy 1-1 trip and lose by a head sitting quietly.

Stewards report said it was trotting roughly , so driver Hope unable to drive it out ?? looked to be trotting well to the naked eye. ?? BUT that seems the style in a few trots races . hold em' togeather. no galloping in straight.

Zac Butcher could just say this same thing to Stewards as Ben Hope did.? and all will be fine.

I'm not a fan of the way zac butcher drives sometimes, and have said so in the past. I don't deny his ability, just don't like the way he drives sometimes.

On this occasion i think the stipes are quite right to ask the question over his drive on liason. They would be negligent if they didn't.

I do however think that the video shows the horse is giving its best, and while Butcher is not showing much vigour,i think its because he knows its trying its best.

The optics of the drive are why there is an inquiry into it. But in my opinion he should be judged on whether he gave the horse every opportunity to win and whether he was was getting the best out of it. And personally i think he was.

Gammalite i don't think the Ben hope drive on easy pickings is an exact comparison as easy pickings wasn't trotting that squarely earlier in the straight and tends to break if pressured when trotting like that. I think it got more balanced as it got closer to the post. I backed it and understood why hope drove it like he did.

True, and you know already i find it hard to be critical of drivers. I respect trotters as well and the balance needed to Get them home first. afterall ,even 'Sundees Son' (the current best NZ trotter) used to jump out of gait in the Addington straight on occasion.

Butcher was actually jiggling legs and that in the gig last night, and looked to be trying hard to me . And then an unfavourable Headline here about Race FIXING ? FFS , beaten a nose , accused of race fixing? what a slap in the face for the bloke, just so Uncalled for. Why not praise the winner instead?

Yeah , was 'surprised' with the lack of vigour on EASY PICKINGS. But wasn't crying foul, afterall he had closed in on the leader all the way to the line, and nearly got there. I'm just used to 'more vigour' in Australian racing.

The best example you should be looking at judging your comments is Mathew Williamson sun swinger he does have a go at the finish to WIN

Zac admitted guilt......The adjourned inquiry in to the lack of vigour displayed by Z Butcher (LIAISON) in the run home was concluded at this evening's meeting. Mr Butcher changed his plea to admit the charge and after hearing submissions as to penalty the JCA suspended his driver's licence until the conclusion of racing on the 1 April 2021 (2 days) along with imposing a $250 fine.

Well you spotted it. so credit to you for that HaveaGo ahead of most of us, but Lack of vigour is NOT the same as race fixing. (hence the small penalty). So your Headline is still incorrect.

Race Fixing is a CRIMINAL offence these days and Police are involved. Penalties are LARGE. and you go to court.

Betting records are the Best Indicator / evidence of race fixing.

Am sure the horse beating LIASON by a nose or 1/2 head was not subject to a betting plunge , and BUTCHER just had a moment of misjudgement rounding it up Possibly? did you enjoy his 2 wins last night at Auckland ??? or are you going to get stuck in about the two seconds he had?
