KRUG has won both Derbies this year in NZ. looking forward to seeing him tonight again for sure.

In 1963 the NZ Champion juvenile pacer TACTILE won both those as well (the NZ Derby and The Great Northern Derby) but then champion NZ horseman Robert Cameron shipped across to Aus and took out the NSW pacers derby, The South Aus Pacing Derby and the Victorian Derby !! 5 Derbies in 2 countries . Now that is brilliance.!!!

I should be on the galloping thread , but you guys are the best here at the harness.

Just having a look at the Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm tomorrow

Who loves kiwi Chris Waller training ??? everyone...

Who likes the Great NZ jockey James McDonald Riding ??? everyone...

Who loves backing a Derby Winner at 14-1 odds ??? everyone....

Who loves a kiwi-bred getting out to the Derby distance of 2400m ? everyone.... and the horse too !!! (also Let's Karaka Deel and Horrifying) NZ trifecta.

WELL here it is !!!!!!  KUKERACHA   No 3 Race 7  derby winner?

The stars and moon are aligning.

Courage Under Fire = 6 Derby Wins ! outstanding !. Also 6 Interdominion heat wins  but closest he got was 4th in a Grand final.

My dad flew up from Tassie to Brisbane in 2001 to punt on CourageUFire big , as he said was a certainty. We were packed in like sardines in the stands , was tight as can be everywhere. never seen anything like it. never happened again .

YULESTAR from 4 back on the fence down the back,  somehow got out , and rattled home wide to win for NZ !! tony Shaw , couldn't believe it . Raingirl's foal ATITAGAIN was 2nd,  Tim and Anthony Butt were 3rd with POCKET ME as well.

Courage Under Fire a 'battling' 4th . and a very grumpy old man grizzling in the stand about everything kiwi beating him hahahaha.  crushed by the loss and the crowd !! hahahaha

Maori chief won brown derby

You don’t really like Maori’s, most likely because you don’t really like the behaviour of males within that group. Again putting yourself down, as you are a male.

On a positive note, am enjoying your race posts 😄, not these (Kiwi’s & Maori’s) racist posts.

Great uncle horse was called Little Maori in Aussie had another name in NZ and done well!

Your great Uncle's horse raced in NZ as ATLANTA (a Light Brigade mare who won a couple at Forbury Park)

You are right on the money being on the Derby thread here as she left a brilliant foal named LITTLE WILLIAM.

Little William WON the Victoria Derby 1975. !!  to join the honour roll of champions like paleface Adios, Bag Limit, Westburn Grant, HolmesDG, Courage Under Fire and a swag of other classic winning horses.

So LITTLE MAORI has a claim as the mum of a Derby Winner !!! a grand achievement.

Well that's a great stat on her resume' . what a ripper.

1964 Interdominion at Melbourne Showgrounds . The brilliant horse TACTILE I mentioned start of this thread finished 3rd. the year after his 5 Derby wins.

The NZ Best Horse Ever CARDIGAN BAY fin 6th starting 48 yards behind (because he won the 1963 Interdom SA)

LITTLE MAORI shared the 12 yard Handicap with ROBIN DUNDEE (one of best NZ mare ever) who won Interdom the following year in 1965 at Forbury Park (dead-heat)

So the kiwis were all off the Handicaps on that tiny tiny track ???  Talk about home town bias ???

Tactile, Little Maori, Robin Dundee off 12 yards and Cardigan Bay 48 yards. Minuteman won it ,off the front .

Bloody cheating Aussies !!!! lol...... hahahaha

your great Uncle's horse keeping EXCEPTIONALLY gifted company from NZ there !! wow ......... crazy good.

Yep sure did, believe ran in that Dunedin Inter final year late, against  Robin Dundee . Believe at some point, Melbourne mobsters tried poison it as well. Becuase how good it was.

Hehe was meaning, the shooting attempt. Unless the movie just added bit for a bit of action. Just re-read Gospels post re poison. But yeah was thinking re shooting when posted lol.

Yes some bookies paid off someone to fire off a few shots and scare them into scratching from the Melbourne Cup.

Don't think they wanted to 'really' hurt the horse, as pretty hard to miss a horse with a gun.

"Phar Lap" had scratched from the 1930 Caulfield Cup and that races subsequent winner "Amounis" was backed in huge amounts of doubles with Phar Lap to win the 1930 Melbourne Cup (Phar Lap scratched late from Caulfield Cup so they got great odds) so the bookies wanted him to scratch from Melbourne Cup too. he didn't. Phar Lap Won . and many bookies collapsed.

FOOTNOTE that not many know. Phar Lap made an estimated $1,000,000 pounds for Bookies the year before in the 1929 Cup, an absolute fortune, as everyone backed Phar Lap , but he finished only 3rd to Nightmarch.

bookies motto after that lot ?? "You win some , ya lose some" lol.....
