Newmarket
Good to see him train 500 winners today, in fact 501 couple of hours later. What a top trotter Sundon was, and great as a sire for many years. One of my favs was Royden Glenn, after falling heavily in the derby, came back a few months later and strung the wins together. Pity he was a luckless 3rd in nz cup, Preux Chev kicked his butt show day, but great to see him turn tables last nite. Good on you Fred, copped a bit for his driving style, but trained some top horses. 3

Fred trained Royden Glen and Sundon, two of the best harness horses in NZ ever, and a host of other top horses. Well done Fred.

Unbeaten as a four year old . 12 starts 12 wins for Royden Glen (including Auckland Cup) so a brilliant training effort by Fred Fletcher. Can never forget that derby crash. Royden Glen was on the deck for 10 minutes or more lashing out. Nearly took out a hall of famer in Charlie Hunter ONZM (Young Quinn's trainer) check this following report for how close a call these amazing men and women can have at times. Displayed in a corner of the Hall Of Fame is the helmet that saved Hunter's life during the most sickening racing fall in New Zealand history. In the 1984 New Zealand Derby nine of the 14 horses crashed at full speed directly in front of a packed grandstand at Addington.Hunter, driving Tucker's Rule, was caught at the bottom of the carnage, with champion pacer Roydon Glen trashing out with his legs and repeatedly kicking Hunter in the head.Hunter broke his sternum and ribs and his lungs were punctured. But the cracked helmet that sits in the Hall Of Fame saved his life.

Shame trackside presenter didn’t know about his best performing horses such as Roydon Glen and Sundon but could only mention recent trotters which all are well below the superstars he trained. No passing lane in Roydons Glen NZCup and locked away on fence - hot pot certain beaten !
With A Dream
Don't forget Roydon Scott. A half to Roydon Glen. He beat Lord Module on numerous occasions. If I remember right his career was cut short by arthritis. Phillipa Frost was another good one 3
Brodie
Royal Aspiration was a more recent good trotter he trained! Not sure how he was so good as he was one of the roughest trotters you could see, but he was like that all of his career.

She won the Jewels in 1:54.7 beating Monbet. She was a horse that had a huge sprint if saved for the last run. Fred knows how to trainer a trotter that's for sure.
