Another person has commented stating they have word on another North trainer thinking of moving too. It also read that Alex P (ATC) have confirmed a loss of $90 million. Do we need to add into our timeline the fall of the North? Year 2027 … ? Wonder what is being planned to stop this potential date line from potentially happening ... ? Auckland harness racing is stuffed. Can not see any way out of it for them, and yet they are still getting big funding for good stake money? There are buggerall trainers in the North and reducing! Junior drivers are pretty non existent and dwindling! The continued losses can not continue and needs radical change to make it worth racing still! Very sad indeed but it appears like the end of harness racing in the North is going to happen.

You refer to the auckland trotting club confirming a loss of $90,000,000(thats a lot of zero's),for the previous financial year. Money that could have been spent in areas which would have ensured a future for those in the industry up there, has gone, never to be seen again. It will ripple out to those who make a living from the sport. All rather sad. But the reality of today has to be faced. And are those who run the ATC living in the real world. Heres a quote from rod croon, president of the atc. Its the last sentence in last years Annual report on the clubs finances. Of note this was made only 10 months ago. "In 12 months time,as a result of the hard work and energy we have all brought to the club,i believe we will be able to look out from our new facilities and look forward to a prosperous future". Delusional is the word that comes to mind. So what conclusion could you come to. Well i would have thought the obvious one is those leading the ATC are either really stupid,or have been deliberately deceptive, i guess so as not to be seen as incompetent. What else could you conclude. Did they really think anyone with any sense would believe them. Why don't they face reality, tell it how it is. North island harness need to develop a proper business model which sees the sustainability of racing. For a start, stakes need reduced, and the bigger trainers up there should reduce their training fees accordingly.Auckland still has an asset than can be cashed up and racing continue elsewhere in the region.Thats just one of the most obvious is it not?

Karrotsisback
The thing Iv noticed with for e.g. TAB, HRNZ & ATC & please anyone correct me if Im wrong, but those that are high up and the highest up, do not own the company or whatever it is they are called. They are merely employees so to speak. Remember learning the difference between a business owner & an employee - these 2 words 1. Responsibility 2. Liability A CEO or General Manager while maybe high up within this company, if they hold no ownership or shares in company, then the bottom line for them is ONLY Responsibility. This enables them to just walk away, mostly unscathed should anything go wrong. Other than a dent in their CV. Whereas Liability as a shop owner, or car dealership owner, or finance company or any business owner, even trainers that run their own business, the buck Liability STOPS with them. Their business goes under, they go with it. Meaning lose money etc. Until this changes, they can just keep walking away, mistake after mistake. Not their money after all. 1
Karrotsisback
Whilst 1 awaits for Gamms reply, I shall add to the timeline here. North Falls by year 2032. Id prob put money on it too. Not really what Id call 100% clued up. Still in shock! Those in charge currently walk away, unscathed, find a new job, or more than likely take super retirement payments from Govt. Anyways nite ALL Edited September 3, 2021 by Karrotsisback
Karrotsisback
Great interview here with J Street. What a good dude. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk8yMF54mpM Interesting parts picked from it was that sale of The Dealer was for $120k & sale of Line Up $200k. Shall add into the timeline, Lincoln Farms which is currently leased back, after it was sold, lease ends in 2027. This is what Street said. Which I guess means no more Lincoln Farms in North from 2027.
