Brodie Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 (edited) Once again Nelson has run a meeting with predominantly mile races! Yes it gives a bit of variety from our 2000metre plus racing but it is not a great spectacle or an attractive punting medium! Yes there will be some that enjoy it and say they are trying different things and the clubs perogative! Seriously though, when you have less than average horses running 1.53 it gives a false indication of a horses ability! You have got maidens going mile rate times well under what open class horses are running it becomes a farce really! Akuta went slightly under Celtic Spirits time today so does that mean Akuta is not much or is Celtic spirit nearly as good as Akuta? Is there really a need to give black print to less than average horses, and to be fair some of the winners today over the mile will struggle to win another race unless it is in the North Island!! With A Dream Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 I love mile racing. Good on Nelson for making use of their great track for mile racing. Makes a change from all middle distance racing. Mix it up, that's what I say. 1 Quote
mikeynz Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Seems a bit of a wasted track, Richmond, Waterlea dont even race on theirs, all weather that is, probably run trials on them but they must need to be maintained to some standard but for how long? 1 Quote

I agree. The background shots of the track look terrible. an overgrown wasteland, weeds and wrecks. The smelly mudflats not too scenic either. Quote
