He is back - Beragio!!!!

As someone who liked the look of Beragio early on and has seen all his races, I think I can comment.

Is it nuts to keep him racing and paying for all his bills when he barely returns a dollar? Yes, it is. He has broken so many times it is not funny. He has been treated so leniently by the stipes it is ridiculous. The odds of him getting around the track in one gait are about 15 to 1. (The odds I would actually give!)

Is it great that the owners want to keep him racing for reasons unknown? Yes, it is. The owners can do whatever they want. It is what keeps racing colourful otherwise we would have nothing to discuss or debate in harness racing.

'To Beragio, or not to Beragio' That is the question.

Take new posters as you find them, innocent till shown guilty etc etc

If new posters are just here to troll, then it will become apparent pretty quickly and the Chief will moderate them

Simple really

hesi for the benefit of this site, one should not automatically assume a new poster is here to "troll" or cause mischief. i do not believe any of my posts since joining this site have been anywere near this. i just immediately joined in the conversation and challenged a posters views here.  as im sure others may challenge my views in future discussions and i may do the same.

its all part of healthy debate.

onwards and upwards for everyone

the real question about this horse is why he hasnt been enforced by stipes to start from the unruly, i wuld say my gripe would be that he hasnt, and if he breaks, he could be distracting other runners by breaking or potentially causing interference.

i hope for the owners they reward his patience.

the reality is with the right race and manners, he is capable. he showed this at blenhem running  close second. The other thing we know with horses, is sometimes when they can get it right once, they can kick on with it.

you could cite worse examples of why owners persist. there was a mare that had a club foot, was in the news, the names escapes me, going back a few years ago, had over a 100 starts, and only a couple of placings.  i think my grandma could run faster than that mare in reverse.

I agree happy, but surely he must have trialed for the stipes and behaved himself for them to keep letting him race, would like to see him get his head together for the faith his owners have placed in him.

Correct, the horse should’ve been stood down many times for his breaking during a race, which could be very dangerous to others.

Doubt the horse has got the ability or right head space at 8years of age to actually win a race in NZ.

Seriously, when and where has it shown any sort of ability, running a place at Blenheim on the grass is not noteworthy!

Doubt whether he could win a Wednesday trial at the moment due to his willingness to gallop for no reason whatsoever!

As I have said there are slower horses probably racing but they don’t gallop 5 times in a race.

The previous trainer and owner passed the horse onto Murray Edmonds as he had obviously decided he couldn’t win with it.

Maybe Murray has taken it on under some special training arrangement but if he has then he is going to be down the gurgler  financially!

The horse is an absolute shocker, end of storey!

The stipes did nothing. I think it wasn't until his 7th start until he got a warning.  I think he broke in every race previously.

There was also that Cran Dalgety runner that used to break all the time from mobiles and carve up half the field but it was never stood down either.

I believe I started the thread on RC about him. Here are my 3 posts, if anyone can work out why he was never stood down would love to know.

6 starts and 6 breaks.

You would think it would be sent back to the trials by the stipes to get some manners.Surely

TAB opened it up at 19FF in a field of 12.

Maybe I am not in the know but my money is on get clear for everyone involved.

7 out of 7.

but was at the crossing so won't count with the stipes.

Beragio has received a final warning..

Beragio has been stood down from yesterday’s race to complete 1 satisfactory trial!!!!

So it can run in a small trial with 3 or 4 horses and it has to be satisfactory!

No doubt we will see the mighty Beragio back at the races in the future as the owners clearly think that it is worth persevering with as a racing proposition.

They should be given an award at the Annual Harness Rewards this year for being the most optimistic and most perseverant bunch of owners in the game!

Good luck to them, they will need it!
