If there is an upside it is that there isn't a big pot of gold for him to piss away , that's the best plus i can come up with which just about sums my attitude to the whole industry now . How he's going to turn around and make big strides in increasing betting revenue , god knows , and if he does please , please , make Mr Tod's aquaintance .

It seems that the current Racing Act 2020 is a lemon.   But, far worse, IMO, was the 2003 Act, that changed, irrevocably, the existing model to the corporate one we then inherited, along with the subsequent run-down of the operation with succeeding inadequate management.

Keeps coming back to one word , corporate , we forgot we were a sport and a sport for the common man .

We are not the only sport cocked up by people in suits trying to make them businesses .

So you'd be happy to race for no stakes?

Don't be a twat , are we better off for being run as corporate , stakes are stagnating because of the excessive spending of industry money by these so called business men .

And we're still not sure if we are out of the woods , as you keep banging on about that we don't have a clue how the " business " is doing , never get the figures . We have no idea where our bottom line is .

I'm not being a twat but what us the alternative model for a business that earns 100's of millions in revenue?

The issue isn't the type of model or the various Acts it's  purely and simply Governance.

There is no accountability to stakeholders.

But back to the model - some of the failures occur because Racing in NZ has traditionally been a mixed model that is a mix of Corporate businesses and Amateur Clubs/participants.

The PGA in America very much relys on volunteers but is also heavily commercial. I note at every tournament the organizers acknowledge the volunteers.

Are you talking the PGA Tour?  Or PGA of America?

The PGA Tour run their tournaments as non-profit charitable organisations.  This offers a tax advantage to donors. The volunteers are rewarded by the channeling of donations back into local communities.

Also the PGA revenue is primarily from very large company sponsorship and the selling of media broadcast rights.  This revenue is channelled towards financing the Corporate activities and player prize money.

Some of the technicalities could be applicable to NZ racing. What I am saying volunteers can fit into a commercial environment.
