pete
Bit of a farce really. Had a problem pre race and vet passed to run. Jumps one fence and pulled up. And yes I did my money cold!
Richie
Yep,in Aussie Ladbrokes would give your money back saying that in Aussie probably would have been scratched as vet prob wouldn't have passed as over 80% of horses vetted over their are scratched, they eyre on caution..I only took in trebles and still got first leg in so not hurt me too much but know someone who had huge place multi with it
barryb
It is a bit of a case of dammed if you do or don't scr. I have had 2 late scr that I have owned that the Trainer couldn't find a single thing wrong, costs shitloads to take a horse to the races so if it appears ok would rather this happened than scr for little reason. Guest CrossCodes
Yeah it wasn't a great way to do your dough, wasn't a good look. As an aside, where is Shaun Fanin? Can't see him on the injured or suspended jockeys list?
Poisoned Dwarf
S Fannin has been suspended for a few weeks, it ends at the close of racing today
pete
THE SHACKLER (A Kuru) - Underwent a pre race veterinary inspection after connections advised that the gelding had looked a little scratchy coming out of its box on race morning but had subsequently worked and appeared sound. THE SHACKLER was again inspected at the start following the preliminary and passed fit to race. After jumping the first fence the gelding became indifferent in its action and was then retired from the event immediately after jumping the second fence. Rider A Kuru advised that THE SHACKLER had felt fine during the preliminary and in the approach to the first fence during the race but immediately on landing had felt sore, further advising that he had been unable to pull THE SHACKLER up until after the second fence due to being unable to remove the gelding from the race clear of other runners. A post race veterinary inspection found the gelding to be lame in the right foreleg with swelling around the pastern. A veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to racing next
Weasel
I happened to hear on Trackside before the race that the connections had advised the stewards of the scratchiness' problem, etc. Good on them for being open about it. Tough decision, really, to 'race or not to race' when you cant see anything wrong. Bad luck for the connections, but at east they still have their horse (unlike last week at Rotorua) and punters were informed before the race.
jess
Well done by connections and A Kuru. Seems from those accounts they dealt with the situation as best they could. Hopefully the horse has taken no additional harm from starting. J.

Thomass
I'm picking if Corin Murfitt had have been doing the inspection...you could bet your last dollar he'd pick something up.... ..but he's semi retired and was caught by the camera inspecting horses as they left the birdcage...it looked like 'punting reasons' Many of these new vets are women...not long out of vet school and unfamiliar with how a lame horse behaves... just saying

Freda
He's not a young horse so I would assume so. I guess no reason, with suitable recovery, why he wouldn't be a good hunter or similar though.
Weasel
"just saying" ? Just saying what, TomTom? 1 You appear to know nothing of the exact circumstances of the inspection at the start. You don't know who was inspecting TS, what the vet saw/didn't see...why he/she passed the horse fit to run. But because the horse was pulled up early in the race by his concernd jockey, you assume or imply it's probably an incompetent female vet's fault. 2 You are speculating, generalising and (typically) posting ignorant nonsense - probably just to see if (and how much) you can aggravate BOAY members. 3 Suggesting for you: think before you post. Just saying.

Not at all..love Women...madly deeply My reference was to their possible inexperience in this case A recent vet grad...Julia Zhu "From her practical work, she had noticed more female vets on part-time contracts than male, while also noticing it was often men who who owned their own veterinary clinics. Pitman
The vet who inspected the horse is a very astute and capable vet who I personally have the utmost respect for in her professional ability and knowledge. As is Paul Nelson who would not have sent his horse to the races thinking it had an issue. You people criticising have no idea how professional and caring all connections including the vet are in this case. Their considerable knowledge should not be open to random criticism from people with far less credentials and/or experience Michael Pitman

But Nelson did think it could have had a possible issue or else he wouldnt have told Stewards... The problem Punters have was the tweet mentioned no possible Trainers concern...merely it was about to be inspected...could have been anything from a knock going out of the birdcage with that comment... Punters can't be watching or listening to Trackside 24/7...that's why social media is so vital these days... ...we should have had total transparency here with regards to why
Kakama
I had a bet on Notabadrooster yesterday....when it went up to win 2 fences out....as I had drunk a few beers by then....I yelled out....The early crows gone up for the rooster!!! Well, did we all laugh when it fell after last jump....seemed to jump it well...just too lazy to put feet out.. The laughing in the members stand went on for ages...
