Newmarket
Wow, You would have to say the first 2 days of this carnival have produced the worst fields ever. What a shame, we used to have real good northern horses down here, but poor now. Whats happened?
Guest CrossCodes
And more surprising to me is how disappointing some of the Myers runners have been, he certainly doesn't dominate Riccarton like he used to on his raids to the carnivals, Scapolo won well on the first day but some of his jumpers so far have been very ordinary......that could all change in the big ones of course. In recent seasons Maybe sth island horses have improved slightly, but the nth island horses that have started are nowhere near as good as previous years. Usually had large fields? Turny
Good fields Saturday but has lost its appeal to NI stables - no money on the table
Freda
Gee you're an unsporting lot....Jack Frost spanks the field and the opposition is poor? And what did Amanda Swartz' hurdler do to his rivals in the first? ?
barryb
Fair call Freda, Jackfrost was super today and would hold it's on in the Great Northern. There are some pretty decent hurdlers up north this year though.

What were crowds like today freda?
Freda
Pretty light I'd have to say, well as far as I could see. However, with the old stand being unavailable [earthquake damage to foundations discovered recently ] there may have been patrons in the upstairs boxes as opposed to milling around at ground level. There did seem to be plenty of noise coming from above! And yes, I may be parochial...Pitty could have been tongue-in-cheek but local horses have definitely improved in recent years.

Huey
Still look like pretty good sized field barring the jumps fields , but probably more an indication of the state of play in racing than not being supported by NI stables I'd have thought.
