Addington disappointing no.s Friday night!

Only 77 starters currently for 9 races at Addington is a bit of a shame.

With several races with 7 or 8 starters doesnt exactly make for a great night of racing does it?

We know the North Island racing is buggered but why is Addington no.s right down?

With the cost of training you would think that owners would want to be lining up at Australasias best course bar none?

Hopefully this is not a sign of what is going to happen over Winter or the punters will probably be turned out as well!

Maybe all the horsey people will be at home enthralled by the Auckland cup night.

Just think a diet of Friday and Sundays all winter, thrilling.

i imagine there is a Sunday meet as well somewhere so is there overkill?

As for the trot night concept, bar all the technology issues is the racing actually good enough to justify its own channel?

Timaru on Sunday averages 12 per race and less stake money?

Hard to fathom with the travelling costs etc.

Far better punting opportunities on Sunday so mot sure what is going on?

Maybe there is a loyalty to places like Timaru just to keep them going, and on a different tangent Alexy is back, cant have liked being left at home as he was hardly ever there, bit of a shame he missed THE RACE,  would have been a good leadup to the winter circuit😃.

In all seriousness though you do wonder if there is too much racing, there definatly is too much average stuff yet the powers that be claim things are going well, are they though?

To be fair mate it has always been like this at this time of the season. Late autumn, winter many horses sent for a spell and I don't blame trainers for doing it. Who wants to me working horses in the mud, rain and frost.

I agree with you about Addington. It baffles me why trainers would rather race their horse at Timaru than Addington. It's senseless. I've given up trying to understand it mate. Crazy!

Of course is is worst today mate because fewer horses. You only get the slow horses those that never have a spell, Bright Glow, The Bloss, Ruby's A Delight etc... I don't bet much at this time of the year.

Although small some of the fields are interesting at Addington, I think there will be some up and comers on display to be filed away in the black book until next season.

But the powers that be do have the answer to this. I see in today's paper they want to close down Timaru and Geraldine as quickly as possible to boost Addington fields.

Perhaps the other answer would be to kill off the Nelson Marlborough winter circuit, that would boost Addington fields surely. Oh hold on, they have already done that and it doesn't seem to have worked. Bugger, another theory shot down. Oh well, perhaps shut down Rangiora, surely that would work?

Hey doomed I thought you might have been taking the piss but I'm just reading the article you are talking about, on another note I reac Blair Edie the southern trainer has stopped racing for now, no track work rider, so difficult times indeed.

Hey, Doomed me again, hypothetically if harness wanted to scrub Washdyke and Orari based on the fact that they keep Oamaru, one venue between Timaru and Oamaru what would the gallopers do, logic to me would suggest scrub Oamaru and retain Washdyke ,do the codes work in unison,? Maybe if Orari was to go ,any reason why not race Washdyke on the grass, if Oamaru closed for gallops move meetings to Washdyke.

I guess if Washdyke and Rangiora closed for harness then the meetings would probably move to Addington, more and more of the same old same old, oh well the powers that be know best.

The problem with Timaru harness is the meetings are very low key  the gallops the same but shouldn't be, take away harness from Timaru now and the venue is hardly used yet strangely the same is happening now at Gore, since the trots left it's gone from about 10 days to just 7  strange as they dont even run trials or workouts at Gore yet then strangely they race 2 days of. trots on the grass despite that arsehole crossing.

I guess the debate will go on and on, I only started posting here about the time they made all the cuts  proposals 2 years ago, we all have our thoughts, I wonder what the landscape will be like in 2 more years time, whatever way one looks at things harness is only a shadow of what it once was.

Addington has turned into a real turd for betting. Leader biased favourites turning everyone off. That is why the grass tracks and country meetings are better betting opportunities and favoured by punters owners and trainers. The biggest issue is why can't the heads of the TAB and HRNZ make that conclusion that as well.

Very fair comments indeed!

I havent bothered at either meeting tonight Auckland or Addington!

Just can not see anything worth having a go at!

Unfortunately with all the racing at Addington the Bookies have the odds  too short when they open them up and leave them at the same odds for far too long!!!!!!

When you have 5 horses paying under $2 top 3, then it is just not worth the effort!!!!

Fields too small so no one wants to offload.

Race 6 the tightest class race has $2,908 on the tote win pool with 5 minutes to close!!!

You can not tell me that harness betting is in a good position!
