Yes I know it has been done before, but FFS it is such a dumb rule it has to be dumped!

Just Watched Race 2 at Oamaru and Leo O’Reilly got done for using the whip in excess of the permitted no. of 10. On Flying Master Williams

Leo is not known for being a heavy user of the whip, previously as far as I am aware and I don’t believe he has been on this occasion either.

The horse only got out the last bit and yes Leo did give the horse a few to try and do its best but certainly wasn’t 10 hits one after the other or excessive whatsoever.

He gets a holiday for trying on a horse that has been around a long and wants to win a race!!!!

Harness NZ admit that you have made an error of judgement in bringing this damn stupid rule in and put it back to what it was before, which worked just fine.

Animal Rights had no problem with the way the whip, was being used in harness in NZ.

What happens in Oz is what should happen here, forget about trying to be PC and run the industry the way it should be!!!!

The Hoary Old Chestnut is back.

Do you feel you are any closer to getting this sorted BrodBoy.

What was HRNZ's response ? Any correspondence you can share on here ?

Yes somewhat close Kotare!

They changed it from excessive use of the whip to using the whip in excess of the permitted.

This clearly shows that they have erred in bringing in the rule with a no. On it and don’t agree that it is right, so they have changed the terminology Kotareboy!

what did you think of darksider stuart higgins vigorous urging of jackfrost after the last hurdle in the grand national brodie

Don’t bother with Thoroughbred Racing, too hard to follow!

Have not got a problem with suspending drivers if they do punish a horse too severely, but the current whip rule is ludicrous and unjustified.

The no. Needs to come out of it and go back to previous rule that was working just fine!

Yes he did use the whip too much on Jack Frost when he had the field covered.

I am not going to comment on thoroughbred Racing as it is for punters who can not make money on harness racing!  Lol

However, I reiterate the harness rule needs overhauling as many drivers have been fined or suspended for no good reason, and it has happened far too many times!

would you favour getting rid of it as a performance enhancer or altogether even

Do you have anything supporting that claim?

Have you actually spoken to any animal rights groups about it or are you just assuming that because they haven’t made to much noise pubically about it that they were fine with whipping?

For me I think it’s good that the industry has tried to take a proactive approach, granted the rule may not be perfect as it stands but at least they can show the public they are/ have taken steps to address animal welfare issues rather than scrambling around after the heat goes on.

Not at all.

The Harness Rule was fine the way it was and HRNZ reacted after the Ozzie’s brought in the banning of the whip, over there.

That has now been overturned I believe, just as the current rule here needs seriously looking at!!

FFS, I am not going to continue answering you Rangatira, you are an absolute XXXXXXX.

It was in the damn media when the current rule was brought in, and the Animal Rights group stated that the harness racing usage of the whip was not on their hit list.

Get a life, stop trying to have Brodie on, because you are only an antagonist from the Darkside and I can’t be bothered with them, as that site is clearly dieing!

You can talk to yourself because I have had a gutsful of your shite, I need to sort out the winners for Thursday night.

Far more productive than your crap Ranga  flippen  Tira!

You can piss off too! !

Is that sort of response really required?

Your entitled to have a different view and don’t need to answer or justify yourself to anyone but there is no need to fire off insults when you don’t agree with someone.

Let it go, Brodie.

If the drivers are that annoyed about it then they should unite and voice their concerns through their association and see if they can get amended.  Until that time, use the whip as required under the rule.

As somebody who has close links with SAFE, I can confirm that Brodie is indeed making this up. What is true though is that harness whip use is not (yet) their number one priority.

Acting preemptively is a concept Brodie often has trouble with.?
