Thomass
Let's hope Messara touches on this point "The Racing Industry needs to become far more PROFESSIONAL in NZ...Country bumpkin courses have their place...but not much... ...the Cities will grow the sport...and should replace Shamtuerism" Yep...that hopefully includes getting rid of these awaful displays of Schamatuer Riders races Just take look at them...and then there's their appalling whip violations this year ...in nearly every race there's been a charge...pleading ignorance... ...and the 'look' is a dead set shocker A sack of spuds looks balanced compared to these Amatuers Besides...these amateurs are taking rides off struggling Pros in winter... Just stick to trials days if you need to show off your lack of skill... ASAP Edited August 27, 2018 by Thomass
barryb
As usual, you are way off the mark. I love them and the concept is super. It's great the industry still has links to it's roots where those with horse skill can hop on and have a go.
Thomass
This at a time when we're pleading for the World to invest on our races bazz... The varied styles are worse than junior Pony Club Linda Wheeler throws her whip away...2 out from her the rider's all over their mount like a rash of pox... Then Alam got all excited and whipped away "Mr Jones demonstrated the incident using the available video footage. He identified Mr Alam and showed that he struck his mount 12 times prior to the 100 metres. He said there were some pauses but they were not for the minimum 5 strides. He described Mr Alam’s whip action was extravagant. Mr Alam accepted that he struck his mount 12 times without the required respite prior to the 100 metres." Last month Scotty MacNab...who's been around ions..and should know better..got white line fever... and didn't give a f "Mr Goodwin showed all the relevant films and said that Mr MacNab had hit his horse 16 times before the 100m with only a brief respite of only 2 strides. Mr MacNab said that he thought that he could catch up to those horses ahead and that he did hit his horse too much. He added that he stopped when he realised that he was not going to catch up. Reasons For Penalty: Mr MacNab struck his mount 16 times with the drawn whip with very minimal respite offered. The Committee considered this to be towards the higher end of excessive whip use." Its symptomatic of our attitude to the Sport...amateurish and living in the past

They are often good betting races too.

If anything is going to put punters off, it isn't the fact that the amateurs are, well, amateurs - but the bizarre ruling from head stipe who allowed a rider to put up nearly 2kg overweight in the Riccarton race. That must have really impressed those who had put their bets on early. Edited August 28, 2018 by Freda
Thomass
Oh cmon...what's the point? Pace...all over the place Tactics....AOTP Whip action....AOTP Whips...over the rail Whip fines...reduced Werent these races designed to give experience to stable hands contemplating a career being a Jockey? Or does everyone need a bit of glory and Punters can go bet in Arse while they're on?
barryb
The only thing on here AOTP is the dribble you type on this forum.

Mk2_Zephyr
Amateur races sure, allowing BETTING on said races is a complete joke.
Guest CrossCodes
I don't think they should have amateur betting races, there are some shocking rides in them and it is a terrible look for a so called 'professional' industry. If they want to have an amateur series then that's good, just make them non-betting races.
Huey
Just like some of the fools that want to get rid of jumps racing , lunacy. Ignorance is bliss if you don't know how racing in this country works. Never have so many know-it-alls known so little!!!
Thomass
So these amateurs enter the industry to ride in a handful of races each year? Yea na... At a time when the industry is pleading for Punters to invest on our product... INTERNATIONALLY... ...we give them 'riders'...throwing whips away...continual whip violations...and "extravagant" whip actions... ..not to mention sack o spuds riding 'styles'...and tactics than have come straight from bogan bazz's Comedy Club give us a break

Thomass
Like you wal...I like perving at Linda But I don't like her throwing away her whip... just as she's getting me excited... Thomass
Not at all Bazz...love Tennis and returning serve especially But Imagine these Amatuers getting their time of day in professional Metro Australia? They'd be crucified and booed off the course before they had a chance to say "sorry I lost the whip Punters...but" If were going to become 'International' under the new Messara report schamatuerism needs to go...and that includes poor excuses for races like these

No real harm done, great spectacle & fantastic betting propositions for those with some punting intelligence.
Thomass
They always do the HQ one on Hunt day...but really anywhere Arse Punters would be incredulous with the riding standard? Is it really keeping stablehands suitably interested in the industry..so they can ride badly? If you like car crashes...great spectacle I guess...and yes Scotty and Scott are pretty good bets... But attracting investments..especially the spectacle to International investors? na
