what are peoples thoughts as to which tracks could close and where would those clubs relocate to

Timaru can go to either Oamaru or Ashburton.

Nelson can go to Marlborough (since there are more trainers there)

Waikouaiti can go to Forbury. No idea why it is even allowed to remain open.

The West Coast and Southland are minefields I have no idea about.

Ashburton needs to be upgraded and utilised better. Would like to see training facilities set up there for up and coming trainers as it will help with sustainability, still be affordable and in a central location for everywhere.

i am going to play the advocates devil here

timaru held 6 meetings at phar lap last season and one at addington so yeah they could split those six 3/3 or 2/2/2

nelson crowds a bit amazing for summer meeting so want to pooh pooh that one a bit

waikouati could possibly go to wingatui

i know its a really pretty track but could wyndhams 2 home meetings go to winton thereby retaining one big track in southland

westport is so iconic and a holiday tradition the xmas meeting must surely survive and reefton fits that circuit but not sure march meetings are winners would they be better at methven or orari or mot or rangiora grass or worst case scenario addington

The report just released is a wake up call.It concludes what many do not want to hear, but those with a business like minds know is inevitable for harness racing to prosper in the future.                                                                                                                                                                          This report should be used by industry leaders as a way of leveraging parochial regional interest groups into coming on board to make necessary changes.                                              The most important thing is harness racing leadership create a plan/vision for the future.  One that makes the hard decisions.  Once that plan has been formulated then it is vital they sell the need for change to all interested groups.  Too often those running the industry seem to lack the power/backing for forward planning.                                                                                                          Industry leaders need to back their own  judgment and abilities and need to make change.         I agree with happy sunrise in that one of the industries priorities is the need to purchase  and set up training facilities which allow future participants, whether they be young or old,to rent at affordable rates, ensuring future participation. The running of said facilities must be overseen hrnz.                                                                                                                                                        Facilities for Farriers, vets, feed merchants, saddlery, etc should be included at these training facilities thereby making it cheaper for all concerned and also generating industry income from rents for said businesses maybe run on a profit share business model with hrnz.                            Hrnz  need to foster an all inclusive,we are in it together approach.  There are all sorts of possibilities.             Hopefully this report is the catalyst for change.                                                   When I listen or read what  mr rennell or mr spicer have to say I get the impression they have a lot of the answers. Its time for change.Just get on with it and do it.Trying to placate and appease certain interest groups is no longer an option.

A bit like the rugby union having control over franchises and what goes on.

I thought there was a 'plan' a few years ago that was outlined in a roadshow saying what would be done in the future. Whatever happened to that

Excellent post Galah. Agree with everything you say.  But hrnz need to fight against the proposal to allocate profits from TAB  to codes based on local & internatioal share of turnover, rather than share of domestic as it is now.
