Just watched a replay of race 8 at Addington on the 9th June 2 weeks ago.

It was a standing start trot race won by Unico Vacanza.

Can someone please explain to me how the 3 unruly horses, Unico Vacanza, The Fox and Spy Da Moment who were carded to start off the front actually started behind the 10 metre horses???????

How is this allowed to happen??

They started wide on the track so they wouldnt interfere with the 10 metre runners!

What on earth was the starter doing allowing this to occur??

Seen your question Brodster but is impossible to answer so no one has

The Galah noticed Cambridge doing it too in some discussion last year. seemed the Unruly Horses kept WAY back at times.

Must be nervous around the other horses it seems and the drivers just want them well on their own? . The starter probably doesn't care as they won't be interferring with the 'normal draw' better mannered horses ?

Will PASTE the bit The Galah noticed at Cambridge.

Why is it you see horses who start off the ur starting from 50 and 60m behind the field? Race 2 tonight you had 3 horses start so far back they had no chance. Is that the drivers or the starters fault? Its not the first time. If its so important for the stipes to penalise drivers in mobiles if they are even half a length behind, why not the stands when they are 60m behind where they are supposed to be?

Quite astonishing ! seemed the 'unruly' three didn't want to be anywhere near any other runners. Must be so they don't get too anxious being close to them ?? so were way back as the tapes released and almost out of contention as you say . (unless can trot 4-5 seconds quicker than leaders over that distance )

Standing starts are just such a bad betting medium anyway with the risk, but that takes the cake.

The crazy thing is that the starter allows this!

All 3 horses that were unruly are experienced race horses not maidens!

If a horse is unruly off the front it should be starting in front of 10 metre horses but out wide !

The stands are still a total mystery envelope to what we get.

Some stand and others are on the move, no winder Oz have next to know stands for pacers!

to me,where unruly horses start from appears a bit inconsistent.

There seems several factors involved.Like if they have a 10m tape up,If so,obviously the ur front line horses would be in front of that ,although sometimes you see a starters assistant holding the tape halfway across the track.I think a big factor is the drivers. The better drivers seem to start as close as possible most of the time, whereas some drivers seem to think it may help there horse if they have a bit more space and are further back. also it seems to be dictated by the first horse to turn in and how much time the starters give the ur horses to get closer.

Then you have the mobile races. Some seem to start from the ur near the outside of the track, and others start from behind the number 5 horse. Then you get the races where there are a couple of horses on the unruly. If you have one thats drawn 2 on the unruly, then it makes a big difference where the ur1 horse starts,as if its wider ,then youve virtually got to go back to last, whereas if its behind the 5 horse then you would normally end up in front of 3 or 4 after 200m.

at least they seem to have a consistent policy everywhere as to where a horse sent to the ur for playing up pre start,is placed if there are already ur horses. That used to be different in the north and south islands a few years back.

So,i can see why its not very clear cut for the punter.
