    • The first reported foal by the dual Group 1-winning juvenile Vandeek was born at Mickley Stud last week. The colt is the first foal out of the unraced Alfa Brow (Sergei Prokofiev), a half-sister to the six-time winner and Listed Boadicea Stakes third Alfa Kellenic (Havana Grey). Richard Kent of Mickley Stud described the new arrival as “a beautiful first foal with a good front leg on him”. Vandeek, who won both the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes as a two-year-old, covered 161 mares in his first season at Cheveley Park Stud in 2025. He will stand the upcoming season at an unchanged fee of £15,000. • Jerome Reynier began the 2026 Cagnes-sur-Mer festival with intent with a one-two in the opener led home by Al Rateel (Violence). Sent off the 7-5 favourite for the 7 1/2-furlong debutantes contest staged on the turf, Mustafa Bousaif's 100,000gns Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up purchase was soon in front under Antonio Orani. Finding plenty for pressure in the straight, the bay hit the line with 1 1/2 lengths to spare over stablemate Aspire (Zarak).     The post Violence’s Al Rateel Kickstarts Cagnes Meeting appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. • Might make  sense having a 1700 raceday at Ashburton tomorrow if Nelson didnt have a miles day 2 days earlier, Nelson need to revert to 2400 races on day 2, I suspect it would help numbers.
    • Newmarket, it is absolutely stupidity coming from the Clubs programming these short distance races! If they believe it is going to encourage punters to wager they are delusional! If they think that these short races is going to entice  people to go on course for a day of short 2 minute races, then once again totally delusional! All horses can run a mile and it is just not appealing to the majority of harness followers, but then again harness officialdom are doing very little to keep the industry going! Whoever is deciding to program these miles are clearly not working in the best interests of trying to appeal to the public! There are a couple of horses that I wouldve wagered on, but not over 1700m!
