    • Bit of a gimmick .... no way of telling if it is accurate or not.... I wouldn't trust any of the information coming out of Entain given their track record.
    • finally some communication from HRNZ on the implementation of some changes recommended in the horse utilisation report. Hrnz, via their website news, saying changes will be made to the current handicapping/ratings/programming in 4 months time, from 26 may. Better late than never i suppose. While the handicapping/ratings/programming was the most significant issue dealt with in that utilisation report, there were recommendations concerning other issues. Given the report seemed to talk common sense,i think they should be adopting all the changes originally recommmended. And if not,for the sake of transparency, perhaps HRNZ could explain why specific recommendations that were made, were not going to be implemented. Anyway, the wheels may turn slowly, but at least they are turning i suppose.
    • Seem there are numerous legal actions everywhere.  e.g.https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/jan/20/kpmg-investigation-entain-frc#img-1 I can see Entain cutting their losses and exiting the NZ contract within 5 years. The good news is that new technology means bookmakers as we know them aren't necessary for racing. The quicker we can say "goodbye Entain" the better racing will be.  Whilst at it have a look at the TAB website. Absolutely pathetic in so many ways. Slow to load, jumps about like a Trump supporter, if you click on something it beats you by a fraction of a second by going to say the 5th at Alice Springs dogs. Thats after when waiting for it to jump you've scrolled down only to have to scroll back up.
    • KTA/KTOB in a Jan. 20 statement said live racing and alternative forms of gaming can create a business climate that benefits all constituents if managed properly. "Decoupling is not it," said executive director Chauncey Morris.View the full article
    • HRNZ has decided on the 26 May as the implementation date for new regulations on Handicapping, Programming and Ratings. This revised date was selected for two reasons.  Firstly, to release everything at once.  Secondly, to cause minimal disruption to planned race series in the autumn (for which conditions have been set), and to avoid significant races from now until then. The regulations will be in three parts: a.    Part A – The Rating System.  The major IT work for this has been completed. b.    Part B – Updated Handicapping Regulation, including programming, and relevant rules where needed; and c.    Part C – Update process for nominations, acceptances, scratchings etc. The draft of these regulations will be uploaded to this website in early February.  We will provide a question-and-answer responses, and trainers and owners will be able to ask FURTHER questions on implementation. The core of these changes can be found in the Utilisation Reference’s Group’s Second Report that was endorsed by the Board in September 2024.  You can read it here  The National Racing Bureau is also expected to be operational by that date, with a launch expected on April 7.
